That man could blow....

I was amazed at my dad's vinyl albums featuring him.

r.i.p. Maynard

When I was quite young I went with my dad and brothers to several of his concerts. Quite an experience. I still have one of his records as well. He was sure one hell of a trumpet player!

As a kid I was pretty good on a horn.

I heard Maynard and realized I COULD NOT play.

I love his rendition of Chameleon

The man was a gift to listen to.

A true genius at work.

I played a bunch of his tunes in Jazz Lab while in High School. I was able to mix/record his band a couple of times many years later. To say he was just an influence would be a lacking. He was never one to hog the stage. He gave many a young player a great start. He's already missed.

I'm amazed your dad's vinyl albums could *contain* him! He had a sound that could burn through glass at 100 yards.

(and I mean that in a good way...)

I just wanted to chime in. I am new to the forum and am already absolutely humbled by the wealth of knowledge here!
I had the opportunity to tour and record with Maynard. He asked me to join his band a few weeks after graduating from music school.
It's funny, at the time I thought my education had just ended but it had really just begun.
It was an experience I will never forget and an opportunity that I will forever be thankful for.
Maynard was not only a talented musician and bandleader, but also a great educator and human being.

Maynard was one of the first artisits outside of the rock world that I listened to. He played at my high school in the 80s and a bunch of us would go see him anytime he was in the area. He always had great players in the band.
