Most important question: How big is your room? or failing that, what is the max. capacity of the venue?
It's kinda impossible to make any recomendations without those figures, but just to throw some names at ya, check out Nexo, Meyer Dynacord and JBL for loudspeakers, and Crown, Yamaha and Jands for amplifications.

Depending on the size of the room, you might want to look at getting a compact line array with a couple of high quality system controlers. Nexo specialise in this sort of stuff.

Its an old warehouse approx.150' X125" with a cool exposed beam truss roof. max capacity 1200 or so. I'd like to hang 3 or four boxes/side with subs on the floor. Steve I would be love some contacts... venue has shows booked starting dec 2nd.
Owner seems resistant to renting a rig for a while. (guess he's a gearslut too!)

Renting or leasing the rig is the way to go. I just started a new room with a capactity of just over 400. We have 4 4x12 bins in front of the stage and a pair of Community XLT (is that the right series?) 3-ways flown in on either side. Tons of QSC power behind it too, probably about 10-12,000 watts behind it. Any of the baltic birch stuff is great, EAW, Apogee, OAP, top end JBL & Community etc. Not much has changed there.

For a drive rack I like having some kind of programmable graphic for FOH, especially if I'm working in the same room all the time. I'll set and store my curves for 1/4 capacity, 1/2, 3/4 etc. and start from there for each show. Other then that it's preferance and whatever you can afford. I do have to say that I'm not a big fan of the all-in-one boxes like the dbx Drive Rack. They might be ok if your the only engineer in the room but I think of lot of people find them intimidating if they haven't encountered them before. Plus, it's not super easy to make a quick adjustment to the EQ or even drop the low output of the crossover by 2dB if you need to.

Does the $35K cover labor too or is that just for gear?

club owner really wants to own the gear... I suggested renting as well. My boys and I will be doing all the installation, rigging and tuning. (over and above)
35k seems like 1/2 of what i really need, so i'm kinda looking for a "motivated seller"

Damn. That might be tight. I'd try to scale back where ever possible. Maybe think about flying something in on either side of the stage and then doing delay zones for the back sections of the club. The low end will travel, the mids & highs will need help. Maybe throw something with a 10" or an 8" and a horn every 75' or so and stick 'em on Omnimount brackets.

Or, buy great speakers & amps and skimp on everything else. Put in an A&H or even a used Wackie 8-buss to start with. Can the idea for a split. Use Behringer EQ's for the monitors...I dunno. $35K for a 1200 capacity room including labor just seems really tight when your talking about A list gear.

Dave,

I've made a few calls on you behalf. I'll call and/or email you with the info I find.

Maybe your system purchase plan can be a hybrid of new and used gear. Since, you may not find many used Venice consoles out there any time soon...

Well, maybe if Midas comes out with a 48 channel version. e
