my friend is video artist(?) and is buying a mic for sound rec, and he needs some help, but unfortunately I don't no allot about field recording equipment. So I thought I might as well ask my gearslats for a help

Both sound the same. NTG-2 has the option to battery power it with an AA battery, which makes it much more versatile. You can use it with a radio transmitter, for example. Practical if you want to use it for wireless handheld interviews.
