Configuring my system for backup

Hi everybody,
my system is MacBook Pro 2011 and:
- Fireface 800 (8 analog in + 16 adat in)
- 3x Presonus Digimax FS (8 analog and adat out each at the same time)
I use one Digimax FS for output analog and two Digimax FS to output adat, and I record 24 tracks in the Fireface 800.
The Fireface 800 generates clock via WC to the 2 Digimax FS that output adat.

Now i want to add a backup recorder (alesis HD24 / Mackie SDR 2496), and I want to feed it from the 3 Digimax FS, since they output analog and adat at the same time.
I see two ways:

1) add the recorder, and feed 8 adat channels (from the Digimax that outputs analog to the Fireface), and 16 analog channels (from the 2 Digimax that output adat to the Fireface).
I would need the recorder to send WC to the Digimax it receives adat from.
It is a little complex setup.

2) add the recorder, but change soundcard and get a RME Digiface + express34 card, to get 3 adat in on the sound card. So I could use all the adat outs of the 3 Digimax to feed the soundcard and all the analog outs to feed the recorder.
The setup would be slightly easier.
Is it reliable to daisychain 4 devices with WC BNC cables? Today I daisychain 3 devices.

What do you suggest? Could I try with first way or do you suggest to go straight with the second way?
Thanks so much!

Would option #1 work?

Just use two of these

LINDY 2 Way TosLink Digital Optical Audio Splitter: Amazon.co.uk: TV

to split the adat signal going to the fireface and the other adat inputs of whichever back up recorder you choose.

I don't like so much the idea that both my systems rely on a little splitter like this...
