Case for Mackie HR824s

Steve,

When Jay Kahrs was over to borrow one of my Mackies, he mentioned that you have a cool setup with them in 6U rack cases of some kind. I use them exclusively as remote monitors for direct to 2 track classical work. It would be great to get them in a rugged container, as right now I am just lugging them around.

Thanks for any insight,

Nathanael

100 bucks'll getcha this

You get a pretty damn solid soft case (sounds weird doesn't it?) that can be separated, or joined together, so that you can easily carry both speakers or one at a time.
$100 HR824 Speaker Bags

This photo only shows one bag. Click on the link to see the 'stereo pair'. They are nice for other monitors as well.

Thats kinda cool, anybody know of anything similar for Tannoy Reveals? not likely........... Its rare for a manufacturer to offer a product with such limited appeal (what percentage of 824 owners will EVER take them on location? 2%, 3% maybe?)

Thanks for the link

Kent,

Thanks for the link. They appear to be backordered right now, but I left my email address. Hopefully they aren't backordered as in discontinued, but backordered while they make more. The price is nice!

Kinda hard to say. What with all the hullabalou surrounding Mackie/Loud Tech./whatnot these days (years?).

I'll check into what's going on for ya and then post back here.

I haven't seen a pair of Reveals in quite some time. If they are close to the same size as the H824 monitors, then they should be fine.

I forgot to mention that the Mackie Speaker Bags have some stiffening panels sewn into them. Kinda like Viagra for luggage. Or maybe those battery operated pumps that they insert into... ah, never mind...
It helps to keep those pesky corners and sharp objects from the outside world, away from the cabinet and transducers should you be a klutz (like me) and smash them into something.

My sMackie hard shell cases were made by using two six space SKB (old style) cases, two Middle Atlantic six space shelf kits, two pieces of 3/4" plywood (cut to the size of the HR824) for each speaker, some screws and glue...

I happen to have all these components around the shop. It was very easy to make happen and it worked out great...

Protection far beyond a (hard) soft bag.
Stacks on other SKB cases.
We can leave the cables connected to the speakers.

But, the soft bag idea looks mighty fine. If I didn't have the stuff in stock, I would have went with less protection and got the sMackie soft shell bags.

If you still want to go with the SKB idea, I may have two six space SKBs lying around, maybe even the Mid Atl shelves.

From the looks of it, Sir Remoteness could even use his hardshell cases to change a flat on the truck should he have to do it in a pinch.

I have the Mackie bags, and I'm quite happy with them. I wouldn't ship them, but they are more than adequate for hauling them myself.

I just got the word on the Speaker Bags. They will continue to be available and have not been discontinued.
If you live in Europe, they are in stock in the Rotterdam warehouse, but will need to be ordered through your local Mackie dealer; if your dealer doesn't have any on hand, in their store.

Thanks

Thanks for checking that out Kent! His Remoteness himself gave me a call last night and suggested another possibility. He picked up a bunch of soft bags at an auction for just a few $$ and uses them for Genelecs. He suggested looking at some of the case vendors who do soft cases in general and also at vendors who do outdoor stuff for hunters/fisherman, etc, as he's also found useful cases on the cheap there.

I also have a pair of sMackie HR824s in two wooden racks that fit into two hardshell roadcases with a headphone amp, a stereo DDL to time delay the speakers and headphones when set-up at FOH plus two Loudness meters...

Here are a couple of pictures for your review.

I do the same with an old pair of JBL6208 speakers in SKB racks.

Four small blocks of wood between the rack rails and the front of the speaker to set it farther back in the rack. You can see eight screws that go through the rack rail into the wooden blocks.

There are two small blocks screwed into the sides of the rack behind the speaker to keep the speaker wedged in tight.

The speaker fits so tight in the SKB rack, it's almost as if it was designed to fit.
