collapsible mic stand

I'm not talking about those music-store ones that fold down to 3 feet in length. I want something that will fold down to fit in a backpack. I have seen things like this for music stands and camera tripods, surely someone must make one for mics. A table stand will not do.

I am usually pretty good at googling but words like collapsible and folding just bring up the same 3 or 4 stands that are collapsible but not to the degree that I need. Besides I already own two of those. I would appreciate even some suggestions for other search words.

(I am flying off to the 3rd World with my laptop and a preamp and a mic for literally a day and a half of hit and run recording and I want to travel Light.)

Can you get an adaptor for one of those tripods with threading
for a mic stand clip? I know they have them for light stands.

you can use a light stand like this with an adaptor for a mic clip size thread. probably couldnt put a boom arm on it but it would do the trick. check out pro-photo stores

I would love to know where to get such an adapter (other than have a machine shop make it).

i know hunt's photo carries them if you're in mass but u can also mail order them from some companies.

there is a set of adaptors on this page that will work.

http://www.cascademedia.net/cgi-bin/...de=stands.html

and this one does the trick for 10 bucks
1/4-20 to 5/8 Adapter with stop

i prefer to use the ENG clamp from cascade and clamp to my stand. it has the correct threads on it and i can also clamp it to some sort of railing if i want to.
you can find that on the same page on the cascade site for 18.99.
