Talking Jaco Pastorius can rest easy- Listen and see...

I had to post this. Wont say who it was but they came from out of state- not famous. This is the bass track..... I wanted to share my suffering. When you set up in a room that sounds like heaven with a trident console and a mic collection to die for.... and get this level of ...well... crapsmanship it really makes you wonder. Is anybody listening. This is the Bass DI... unbelievable. Anyone?

I cant believe I just wasted valuable moments of my life listening to that "crapmanship". Holy smokes...wow....that was really not so funny.....You could have at least asked him to tune the freakin thing....

The funny thing to me is its not a joke. I set up over $24,000 worth of mics that day.... They were going to play to a click, their request, but the drummer just couldn't do it. He was really surprised because he had practiced to a click for a whole week....
People never understand playing to a click is a freakin art form. Once you can actually follow it perfectly, you need to learn how to push it and pull it back like a pro. I had to bite my lip when he told me he was a metronome and master of the click- of course that was before tracking...

but the BASS... ohhhhhh we soloed that and laughed for 15 minutes...

for all we know, he's splitting the difference!

I hope the band didn't pay for their session.

Yes, the part is horrible but posting tracks from a paying client without their agreement is totally wrong and unprofessional. Famous or not.

I probably would knock you out Zidane-style if I'd find out.......

this here is pretty ridiculous.

in fact this level of amateurism (solely on the part of the original poster) leads me to beleive that this probably isn't Jaco. Would Jaco ever set foot in a studio with an engineer who lacks this much tact?
tutt

As far as proving that this is Jaco, if my options are taking the word of you... someone with the gall to start such a thread. Or simply dismiss it as completely fabricated. I'll choose the latter.

this whole thread reaks.

Call it what you will. I really doubt you would knock me out.... I'd already be on the floor doubled over laughing. You could kick me though, if that makes you feel better!fuuck You drive from out of state to track that? You deserve clowning. I cant fix that- sorry but regardless of money, thats a waste of my time. I was offeneded at such a ridiculous effort so I really dont care if you think its unprofessional- THAT TRACK IS UNPROFESSIONAL...

I wont post the the drums. Though the above poster is an imbecile, he is technically correct... BUT I will continue to post that bass track. I admit this is the only time Ive posted without artist consent, but LEGALLY I own that track, so I dont need it. I was paid by a third party who has a deal with them. As a favor to him I took ownership cut and less cash. He has been a great help over the years so he gets anything he wants. Plus its the singer he is interested in- not the bass player. This was just to have something to hand out. So calm down tough guy... You are incorrect.

As for the drummer, other than having an average tempo as opposed to a set one, he was fine- nothing special but good enough. Its all bass...

The only players that made it through are the drummer and singer. Everyone else was sent packing....

Anyone need a bass player?

You're quite well versed. Your craftsmanship of the English language is to be envied. A veritable wordsmith! Damn, verbally one upped by a guy named Julian.....
Your post has no point. Obviously you are so busy working you have time to post nothingness. Great, one vote for imbecile by an imbecile... Fleeb.fuuck

If you're gonna talk trash, at least make a point. Or make it funny or interesting. A little effort, thats the whole problem with the Bass player. Just one imbeciles opinion.

PS: Andi's is not right. If you would like to buy that Bass track, let me know since you like it so much- then you could force me to remove it. Thats how this business works, but maybe your just at home. Then again maybe you are just whacked out on all that great weed in Amsterdam.... I wish I was! Oh and if the Bass player didn't like it he shouldn't have signed off- again imbeciles.

I aint picking sides, but if you are going into a top notch studio and thats the best bass you can play, something aint right..

Timing, dynamics and feel are all over the place and I dont need to hear the rest of the band to figure that out..

Bury that guy in the mix..

In this case its just the bassline, and if he owns the song....

haha, it's better that you had to track that than me. i probably woulda taken the guy out back and beat him with his own bass and then told him to give up his "music career". then if he had a nice bass, id probably keep that too

You can. Actually anyone can. Hmmmm wait, I bet I could train a monkey to play very similar- AND he would at least get on Letterman's stupid pet tricks!

Yeah, I own the rights but even if I didn't- WHO COULD POSSIBLY TELL WHAT SONG THAT WAS!!!!!? (and even better- WHO WOULD ADMIT TO PLAYING IT!) I KNOW the song and cant tell what it is!

I did do my favorite "punishment" at the end of tracking-
I solo each track dry and make them listen. Good ones first, bad ones last. THEN I combine that bad take with a track thats on time or EVEN CLOSE ( so its obvious there is a problem). Then I solo the good track with another good track and they know (now that their track is gone) they are problematic. Then the final blow is if there is another player who is having trouble- solo them together. Two crap tracks make an amazing point. I never once told the Bass player he sucked- his playing did it for him. We soloed him in the control room during tracking and just shook our heads.

The behaviour and 'politics' of the original poster make me somewhat doubtful that we're talking 'top notch studio' here.

No he knew he didn't, but he shouldn't have come to track. That was just unacceptable which is why I am so amazed. Other than a couple singers, I have NEVER heard someone that off before. The fact that he actually came to the studio with that- I mean even if I WAS working out of a bedroom thats not good enough... Only the singer had been in a real studio before- the rest were complete newbies.
The guitarist was also terrible but much more of a directionless noodler- at least he sucked in a reasonable way. Thats what you get for doing favors! Technically I made BS money and now am the proud owner of worthless crap. BUT, I still have faith in the singer- amazing lyricist.

I'm not talking trash, just paraphrasing the same word you used to describe Andi. My point was the same he made: I think it's inpolite to share whatever recordings you made of a (paying) client on the internet. No matter how badly the recording may suck.
But for what it's worth: you're one big mother****er indeed and after hours I will light one big spliff. F•ck you asshole.

Cheerio, Julian

I'm learning so much from your posts. So as a 'pro studio' guy, you're finding satisfaction in 'pissing off idiots half way across the world!'

What a great life, I'd like to be like that when I grow up.

I never said I was grown up.tutt Wow, now Im hurt...... sniff sniff.

Funny thing is you ARE finding satisfaction in the same thing or you wouldn't be posting.... it would just be a waste of your time otherwise. Seriously Im having fun with this, but if you are REALLY mad theres no point. The bass track sucks. I own it. Its posted. Done. You brought up knocking me out when I own the track- thats just your ignorance. You seem actually pissed now, like actually mad- not worth pursuing! But feel free to continue trash talking, Im sure if you ARE pissed, this is far from done! But Im done, I love to go toe to toe but even I have to admit this is pointless...

I posted my opinion and you seem to have trouble dealing with it. I'm above calling people names just because they don't share my viewpoints but that's what you do.

It needs way more to make me mad and I actually enjoy debatting stuff here, especially on hell-hot days like these.

I made a slightly ironic comment about knocking you out Zidane-style (FYI, that's the name of a just-retired football player, i'm sure you don't know this, Hollyweirdo!)
If that's offending to you, then you should probably rethink your public perception strategies with your PR assistant.

I'm still interested what studio 'your' bass track was tracked in though.
