Hi guys!!!

I've recorded this tune in a professional studio and I've mixed and mastered it at home.
this isn't the final tracking but only some excerpt to hear the general sound of my project.

I tried to mix it at home ITB to make it sound better...

here I embedded soundcloud's player... you might get more feedback
BTW there's a 'work in progress' area here on GS where people usually ask for tips and feedback on mixes. might want to try that.
Good luck with your music!

Here is this pinhead's response: it does not seem real or alive to me. The recording is well done and the instruments are clear, etc., but it just does not seem alive to me.

Can you explain more about the recording and how it was made, please?

Thanks.

the tracking was taken in a professional studio.
the piano is a yamaha C2 thru tlm103 and then into api512C.
drum is Daila: mics Akg and pres API-tube DBX576-Tlaudio5001 II.
doublebass into Neumann U87 into UA 610.
guitar stratocaster (i don't know the pre but it was a head Masotti).
the DAW apple-based is Logic9.
I don't know other details

Your recording was done with good gear. The sound is fine. I think it is tyhe mix.

I pulled the WAV file from Soundcloud into my DAW and it looks alright, a little bit compressed. The phase correlation and all look alright. One thing that strikes me is that the piano, drums, and guitar all occupy a broad section of the sound field. Is this intentional? It gives the mix a layered sound rather than the feeling of a group of instruments spread across a stage. Was this your intent? The playing and recording are pretty darned good.

Here it is V 2.0 of the mix (master is the same)

the piano is at -100L/center
the drum is at center/+100R
bass center
el. guit. +30R

as above sends to reverbs

This is better. I would listen to some jazz recordings to get the feel of how they are done and how they place instruments. And, let Matti have a shot at it and you can learn from what he does. It is a generous offer. Bottom line: mix 2 is an improvement. Mixing is not easy.

I'd bring the drums up in the mix.

Also, there's a 'bite' missing from the drums. It's in that ~2.5 - 4KHz range where the real ring and 'attack' of the cymbals comes from. Too much of this frequency and it becomes edgy and hard, too little and the drums sound thin and poorly defined. I think you need some more in this area...

I put here the link at the project (only 6 songs recorded).
they are only excerpt from the full songs. they are only pre-production demo, but I need to mix them well to send CD at the producer...

received!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems a little bit too compressed, but I like it. the bass is a little bit boomy, as the bassdrum. you used the pan as I did.

thanks for your try ;-)

I can easily agree esp. the bass and kick part. About the compression -some 3db gain reduction typically

for mastering I used waves L3 multimaximizer with -7dB threshold and 0.2dB out ceiling ;-)

For me....and my taste...

The piano chords need to be leading here...the guitar melody double sitting more gently.
scoop out some low mids on this mix..the classic gentle scoop at 500..ish

Piano chords and bass...supported by lead line and drums...
i would try to make the piano chords a little more haunting by choosing a room in Altiverb carefully...
i think the chords give it solidity and the top line can un seat that if it is too in the face.
