Talking Mobile setup for recording grand piano

Guys,

I'm looking for a mobile setup to record grand piano (2 channels would be OK), which ideally should work at 96k.

I already have 2 Daking preamps and a CEDAR AD. Mics are Brauner Phantom C's

Sounds like you're ready for action. What kind of media do you want to record to?

I would use those Dakings and Brauner Phantom Cs...

There are a few threads about mobile laptop and such on this forum. Have you had a chance to search those out?

There's a lot of good information in those threads.

I like the Sound Devices 722. No editing facilities in it though, but I always edit at home anyway in a decent environment. My ears says the pres and ad are quite decent as well, so nowadays I bring only that machine, headphones, a stand and a pair of mics for my small gigs. Runs on batterie as well, so no need for power or anything. Such a difference from the car full of stuff needed for a multimic recording session.

YES! i love my 744T - when I walk in to record with it I like to joke about how when the radio guys came to record my high school orchestra concerts (1965), it took two burly men to carry each HALF of the tape recorder, and i have better quality right here in this shoulder bag...

I would not go near Sound Devices if you are on a Mac. I had a USB Pre that NEVER worked right, and their tech support consisted of telling me that it was probably an OS X driver issue and they simply did not have the manpower to sort it out. Thanks.

If you are Mac you should strongly consider the Metric Halo. The 2882 has 8 micpres (not too quiet) and great ADC. THe ULN has 2 channels of fantastic micpres. THe MIO Console software that comes with it WILL record to the laptop hardrive, but no editing.

I have used a MH 2882 with Benchmark MPS 420 micpres and am 110% happy!

Sonare, the SD722 and 744t work flawlessly with the MAC and the support for those items is phenomenal. Their customer service has gone through an overhaul, and is now considered one of the best. Justin Manners there is on the ball always.
