Ive spent some time listening to these samples today, I could have done with finding this thread earlier (may fault). Teddy thanks for your time spent posting these, they are an extreemly usefull resource.

Im interested in the Schoeps and M296. I can see what you mean abouth the Schopes being veiled, Id desribe it as colored but that may be just my description of it. It certainly has some color in it, having said that I like the coloration and I liek the Schoeps sound. The M296 is more open but a little 'harder' Was it any closer to the piano or just the impresion I get from the recording. For me the 296 wins out by a small margin between the two.

I dont hear any of the 'metalic' coloration that Id be informed about but not heard.

well..i have been saying this for the last 5 years. the M296 is just a "pop" version of the awesome mk102.1 measurement capsule. If you got the cash spend it on a pair of josephson c617 bodies + mk102.1 caps and the a63 adapter thread.
please keep in mind with the modified adapter you can also use bruel kjaer 4145 or any other 1nch measurement capsule which goes under the iec type 1 standard

good day stike

A bit off topic but ... what is the name of the piece that was recorded?

After having listened to samples, I am glad I recently bought an AT4050...For the price, it is doing great job.

lower noisefloor
less beaminess
better resolution
and flatter response

first time i ran the josephson i immediately e-mailed david josephson as i thought the mics were broke, ,but nope. ( problem was i had never worked with a mic which was so flat on frequency and realistic in sound..a little more work with mic placement and bam i nailed it)

I think you will like it

all the mics were the same distance from the piano, and with the same spread between them.
