Question Portable remote 24-32 track systems?

I'm curious to find out what people are using for reliable, portable multitrack systems (24-32 track) that will either include using or eventually interface with Pro Tools.

Alesis HD24 and a couple of 8 channel A/D preamps for me.

ProTools. It's not a small rack, though.

When there is NO money, I go back to my old Mackie HDR 24/96's. Cheap & easy...they actuallly sound OK at 24bits.

I think the Alesis HD24 has 2 version, a cheaper version with jive a/d conversion and a more up-market version with better conversion. A friend of mine has the latter and has been recording live jazz in nightclubs with good results.

I use a DA98 but I only need 8-tracks.

Yes. The Alesis HD24XR features better converters than the plain vanilla HD24. I use the HD24XR for remote gigs with various 8-channel preamps. Absolutely rock solid. The ability to transfer files to a computer quickly with the Fireport is a huge time saver, as well.

We have two racks of pres both 48 chl. One is all Old School Audio API copies and the other is Aphex 1788 remote controlled pres.

I've also used the ATI 8 CHL pres which have a real basic stereo monitor mixer builtin.
If you can afford em this is about the smallest package you can have with a basic way to monitor what you're doing.

Normally we use a Mackie Xbuss 200 for monitor although I also have a rack with a pair of little Roland 24 chl mixers that sound amazing and are really cheap used. Tiny little knobs but lotsa efx sends and they are stackable.

Yeah, we have a couple of Roland M480 48 channel line mixers that are used in the same fashion as you described. The best kept secret in the (used) line mixer department. I see them on eBay all the time.

I like them for dual 24 track dates. the A/B switch comes in very handy for that application.
