Recording drums with dynamics (increasing intensity)

Hi everyone,

We are going to studio to record a single and this song starts with a sweet piano melody and the kick also sweet on the beat (132bps) and the song increases in terms of dynamics as more strings and guitars get in. So the drums (kick and snare,...) increase the intensity throughout the song.

I was wondering if anyone could tell if this is feasible to record professionally? would there be any issues in terms of micking, or compression? Any solutions for this?

Thanks Joao

It's not a problem. Just remember to leave enough headroom when setting gain levels. I would leave compression out until the mix. I'm the mix, use automation and compression to control the dynamics of the performance

Ask your drummer to play as loud as he/she can and adjust gain levels at mic preamps. Headroom is your best friend, i feel comfortable recording at 24bit and peaks not exceeding -10dBfs. Keep in mind that musicians play louder (more than 6dB usually) when you hit Record or during a gig, you can ruin a perfect take due to overenthusiastic player and hot gain levels

Just my 2 cents
