Elegant banquet hall remote

I am sure many of you have found yourselves in upstairs banquet rooms like the one at Lillian's in Saratoga Springs NY-- these are wondrous little havens, just reeking of that old world elegance-- the vibe is out of this world friendly and welcoming. There's seating for many dozens AND a noisy dance floor. Here's the trio from last Thursday night doing an irresistibly bluesy anthem for repairpersons everywhere, "Can't Fix What Ain't Broken."

Nice work Joel!
Care to shed some light on the technique you used for this recording?

Thanks, glad you like! I'd say "technique" is maybe an exaggeration, but what I did was waltz in with a tripod (that has pads on the feet, so that vibrations from the floor don't jiggle the featherweight Canon S95 that is my camera) and lash to it gorilla-pod-style my Sony PCM D50. This runs constantly, and then I gauge, song to song, whether to start the camera or wait for the next tune.

That's why alot of the time, I need to put together these "intros" that rely on freeze frames until we get to the start of the video recording.

I also (very self-consciously) decided to exploit the capabilities of iMovie to import stills from iPhoto that have been doctored in Photoshop, so that's why there's all this "find edges" and "difference clouds" and "extrude" effects... just to pull out all the stops. See if anyone salutes.

What? No 'saluting' emoticon????

Was the harmonica player in any of the shots? I'm guessing you had limited space to set up and he just didn't get in the shot?

Look out, he is armed (camera and recorder) and dangerous.
