traveling recording, need help deciding on programs

ive been using my 002 at home with alot of other things... the pres' clock' converters have been upgraded, and im going to be goin on tour in europe and will be traveling with my laptop... its got 1.2 gigs of ram, upgradable to 2 i think... but im trying to decide on what to use to get my guitar tracking down, so that if i get somethin decent i can keep it and use towards a real studio recording... i was thinkin amplitube but then came across guitar rig... i was wondering if anybody had any experience with those or any others out there... i'll also be bringing my vintech x73 to plug direct... anybody got any advice...
