karma mics silver bullet????

looking for a CHEAP pair of mics to do some extremely basic recordings of piano recitals, lectures, etc. the mics will be permanently hung from the ceiling in an XY config over the small performance area, maybe 3 feet above head height. i was thinking of using the karma mics silver bullet. does anyone have experience with this mic?

thanks,
quincy

Hey Mr. Jones,

I have never used them, but Karma's website says that their silver bullets are omni mics. If you use two omni mics in an XY setup, you won't get much of a stereo image. If you are going to use two omni mics, try a spaced pair (you can search for AB pair to get more info).

Good luck,

Joe

Sounds like you work for an institution so don't know why they must be CHEEEEP but check out Shure KMS 141 or 137; also Rode NT-4 or NT-5.

And putting mics next to the ceiling assures you of a BAD sound due to the reflection and resulting comb-filter cancellations.

I just got a pair a couple weeks ago. I'd say they're fun mics to have around for maybe some experimental type stuff, where there might be damage to the microphone, and the cost allows you to not worry about. (They're built super solid btw)

Aside from that, they sound "cheap." Some on this forum have described them as thin. I think they're actually quiet dark - and not in any particularly flattering way.
