After a couple years of doing shows with only pictures to prove it I got a call to do a live recording. I had sold all of my recording gear and switched to Mac so it took me a bit of work to catch myself up on the process/gear. I have been focusing primarily on lighting and a bit of live sound, but a band we provide production for wanted to record a CD so here I am. The band does a few tribute acts, the one we're doing is Elvis. So I put together a rig capable of capturing 32 tracks. Since I don't really do this much anymore and live sound is more of a priority the Presonus Studiolive made sense so that when the gig is over I have a console I can use for my typical live sound gig as well. So the rig is Studiolive 16.4.2, Presonus Firestudio, and Digimax FS. This gives me 32 channels of firewire input to Presonus Studio One (included with the Studiolive) with direct outs to an HD24 as backup. Of course, there are 8 channels not going to the backup machine, but they are prepared to retrack some sources so it works out. I tested the rig yesterday, recording 2 hours to my Macbook Pro with no glitches. I haven't done this in a while so I'm excited to see if I've still got it. Input list and mic selection is as follows: 1. Kick 1 - Beta 52 2. Kick 2 (double bass) - Beta 52 3. Snare - e905 4. Hat - KM184 5. Rack 1 - e604 6. Rack 2 - e604 7. Rack 3 - e604 8. Floor 1 - e604 9. Floor 2 - e604 10. OH SR - c414 11. OH SL - c414 12. Upright Bass - Radial Pro48 13. Bass - Radial JDI 14. Guitar SR - EV 308 15. Guitar SL - EV 308 16. Acoustic - Radial ProDI 17. Piano L - ProDI 18. Piano R - ProDI 19. Key Mid - ProDI 20. Key Top - ProDI 21. Vox SL - e835 22. Key Vox - e835 23. Drum Vox - e835 24. Elvis Vox - UR4D-58 There's a separate setup for an "acoustic" set: 25. El Gtr - e906 26. Acoustic 1 - BSS AR133 27. Acoustic 2 0 BSS AR133 28. Tambourine - e614 29. BG Vox - e835 30. Audience House Left - e614 31. Audience House Center - e614 32. Audience House Right - e614 I won't be mixing the show but I''ll probably mix a song or two just for posterity's sake. I'll post them here when finished. Of course, if there's any particular input you want to hear let me know and I'll post it. |

Haha, I know! I'm backing up to an HD24 so some drum channels got combined for that. We set up today, checked the lines, so tomorrow I'll get a decent soundcheck then work on programming the lighting. Oh, I forgot to mention that we're providing the sound system and some supplemental lighting as well... So I'll be recording the show at the same time running the moving lights from my console and calling the show to the house lighting board op and two spot ops. Sunday I leave for vacation.
