oh well... have fun! and let us know what you're using, if you don't mind. i've always wanted to do a thing like this one. sounds pretty interesting. how elaborate are you going?

Thanks me too. I'm jujst getting over a nice 24 hour stomach virus. Hopefully, it's only 24 hours.

I intend to bring a few things and sort it out during the brief rehearsal before the performance.
I have a roll around rack:

Avalon 2022
Pendulum MDP-1
Cranesong Flamingo
(2) 737s
PT HD interface
Head phone amp.

Mics:
Earthworks QTC-1's (most likely mounted on a Jecklin Disc)
KM 184s (most likely ORTF)
AEA R88
Maybe...Avenson STO-2 for spaced omnis.
No spot mics.

PT HD
(2) sets of headphones

I may or may not use all of these mics. Set up at the reahearsal will dictate.

Thanks for eveveryone's good wishes.
Orchestra of 25 were hired guns for the day and met the 55 member choir for a spot rehearsal before the performance. Meeting for the first time it came together nicely.
Thanks to Gordon "Worthlesshippie" Rice (X-Sigma) and Todd Mecaughey (current Drexel U.) for assisting yesterday.

I decided to scale down from my initial set up.
002
G4 867 Laptop
Cranesong Flamingo
Pendulum MDP-1 (this one has the Jensen 16A mod)
I've used Pendulum mic pres in the past but never bought one. Lately a few threads have hinted at the Pendulum being either a good compliment or replacement for the Millennia HV-3C in this application. So I borrowed a Pendulum to check it out.

AEA R88 --> Flamingo
After the spot rehearsal the R88 was moved up a few feet to the first pew behind the conducter and hoisted as high as the 12' + 7" ext. would allow favoring the Choir. The Orchestra were seated on the floor in front of the Alter and the Choir were standing behind and above the orchestra on the steps up to the alter. The Conductor wanted a little more Choir in the mix.

KM184s --> Pendulum MDP-1
These were placed on the Shure A27M stereo mic adapter at head level in the pew behind the R88. The 184s picked up the "edge" of the Orchestra.

EW QTC-1s --> 002
Placed on a Josephson Jecklin Disc (Thank you Fletcher & Zak for your quick response at Mercenary) and angled outward to taste. Perhaps 25' back from the orchestra and up around 8'.

Avenson STO-2 --> 002
Spaced Omnis, same pew as the QTC-1s. Basically set up to check the difference between the Jecklin and spaced methods. Great mics for the money. More self noise than the QTC-1s. Not as much depth as the QTC-1's. However, They are very clear and while not as meaty as the EW I can imagine that in certain applications they would be killer. Thanks to fellow Gearslut Jimbo for the day-trade. Hope you enjoyed my 414

I wanted to record as much of the rehearsal as possible before there was an audience. However, they did not rehearse a single piece all the way through. Therefore, between bits n pieces and audible commands from the conductor nothing from the rehearsal was usable. I should say that most of that time was used placing mics anyway.
While I was not permitted to suspend mics I did have the advantage of setting up the mics almost anywhere regardless of seating. The fact that the EW's are hot mics, omni and placed further back in the Church meant they also picked up the most audience noise...coughs, sneezes, floor squeeking, feet moving, ruffling, sniffling. If I could eliminate the music I might have a good foley recording Therefore, even though I love the way they sound I may have to keep them lower in the mix to avoid accentuating the audience.
I may not use the Avenson's at all except where there are soloists as they were standing on the floor to stage left and the spaced omini might have a greater reach when they performed. I haven't listened back through my main system yet. Everything sounded pretty good to us through headphones. We shall see.

In the meantime. While capturing the sound was the primary concern I did try to take pictures. Not very successful. Really couldn't walk up to the front during the performance to snap a shot or two. Would not have been cool at all. So I took a couple of shots from the rear of the Church using a zoom. I took about 16 shots. About 6 came out just OK.

I did my best best to shrink the size of the Jpegs. However, it appears I have to shrink the image size as well. Next time.

Hey Jamz...

Wish I could have been home to stop by and check that out. Although I'm not much into the live gig thing, it would have been great to catch that. It's nice to hear it seemed to have worked out well. Nice lookin room too.

Hey! Thanks for the thought.
