Had a fun recording on Sunday. A vocal group at a college about 90 minutes away hired me to record them for an archival CD for the members. 17 singers - I had them stand in a circle around a Blumlein pair (SPC3) with Oktava MK319s for lead vocal and beatbox. No beatbox on this piece, but ended up with some fun stereo placement quite by accident. http://www.cheap-tracks.com/mp3/chea...ss_sample2.mp3 Preamp was a Sebatron VMP4000e into a MOTU 24i into Samplitude.

I love the hyper stereo on this! A little "more real than real". How do you like that Sebatron? It makes that pair of SPs sound great! Any hangups or unexpected bonuses from it?

I've been very happy with the Seb. It's maticulously crafted on the inside, and the different pad and EQ settings make it very versatile. No complaints about the sound whether I'm recording a big church choir or need to dirty up a vocal a bit. thumbsup The only other preamps I have are those in my boards (A&H Mixwizard and Mackie VLZ) so I can't make comparisons to other gear. |

Remixed as MS rather than Blumlein http://www.cheap-tracks.com/mp3/earl...issTheGirl.mp3 The hiss is intentional - my SOP when posting tracks for customer approval. |

I just did the same thing. It's a pair of U67s with a pair of Coles 4038s below. I ended up mixing them together and used an additional U47 omni as an echo send.

So...can you post an MP3 and tell us what chain you used? It would be great to compare with a more affordable setup. I didn't hear anything to complain about with the SP / Sebatron / MOTU setup...how much more bang do you get with 10x the budget for toys? |
