Thanks The Listener for these files.
Violin in very reverberant hall is so much revealing, particulary because of the consistency of the reverb.
1 = DPA
2 = CM3
If the contrary I will have a very big interest in the CM3 !

I agree, there's an openness in the top on 1, that suggest it's the most expensive microphone of the two.

...and if not, yes CM3 is truly worth investigating further...

Reading the CM3 thread, it seems worth investigating whatsoever...

Yes, no.1 (both for violin and frame drum) are DPA 4011A.

But do you hear one as a high end mic and the other as a compromise with low end gear?

I like the tiny bit of additional detail from DPA, but CM3 were (equally) very good for my perception.

I might go with 4006A to have a really cool pair of omnis or wait a bit more...

DPA is very superior, for violin sound are impressive because attack transient is fast. You can hear the bow blink on the chords, attack transient is fast, its the bigger difference of professional microphones. Cheap microphones eat the attacks.
DPA are the best microphone in the word for their fast attack, are very professional microphone, uncolored but not sterile.

The price of a device does not affects physics. The best microphone for "tracking" a pulsive high frequency signal ("transient") is the one with flattest and most extended frequency response.
