Onyx vs. Adat HD24XR vs. Akai DPS24 - Converters, Preamps?

Which has the better converters and preamps among these three. I've seen discussion of the Onyx vs. the DPS 24 but for some reason did not see a discussion vs. the converters [since actually the alesis has no mic peamps] on the Alesis.

I'm still waiting to see if I can sort out problems between my Mackie Onyx w/ Firewire and getting the channels recognized in SAW or Sonar.

HAs made me feel like ditching the whole thing and going for an Alesis HD or the Akai DPS.

Apples to Potatos to Cows, IMO.

The Alesis doesn't have preamps.
The Akai is a stand alone recorder.

A couple guys I work with use the Onyx Mixers with Firewire card with SONAR. They haven't had any issues at all.

I'd suggest you disregard the Akai completely.

The HD24XR is reputed to have excellent converters.

The Onyx firewire has good converters, but not as good as the 800R preamp/converter.

If you purchased an ADAT interface for your computer, the HD24XR could work well to provide 24 channels of high quality conversion.

Have you used it?

I have, the DPS24 kicks. Preamps, converters, and compressors all very nice. I've chosen the converters over UA 2192 on occasion, DPS is often a little punchier and very open sounding. The mic preamps are about a cross between Grace and Focusrite ISA 428, quite usable. Much better than the Yamaha mixers I've used. Compressors similar to RNC and DynaMaxx. Great sounding mix bus, better than my A&H.

Disagree. Don't like the akai. I think you can find a better product with ease.

I stand by my comparisons. No, it is not Gordon-level quality. For $2500 or so I'd like to see the 24-track "better product with ease" that can do all DPS does.

I have 2 Onyx 400f pres. The converters sound very nice to me and I have used a few recently. They are AKM upper end converters.
