hi all, i'm wondering if it is possible for me to use my 002 as outboard processing in a live situation through channel inserts? basically, i have the 002, an RME adi 8 ds and An Rme ADI 2, 18 ins/outs, if i wire insert cables to these consecutively and then insert into all channels on the board, record enable and route the track in/out appropriatly, could i theoretically use my plugs as outborad for my live mix? i understand that latency might be a problem, but it sure would beat carrying tons of racks coms/gates, and think of the plugs that could be used....also i could track all the insert sends at the same time...no? thanks for any input guys Andy |

I think that when PLTE is record enabled the inserts are bypassed.

You could do it, but : -H/W Buffer would have to be set low (512,256,128,64) which would thus limit the number of plugins you could run. -The phase shift from that much latency would probably drive you nuts. Best of luck making it work, but i don't know if you will be happy with the result. Personally, I hope you get it to work, as it has great potential (think of all those plugs )P.S. do some homework, meaning I think that someone once mentioned a way to get plugins to work even while in Low-Latency Monitoring Mode. Hi, you can definetaly do this live. Use aux inputs since you are not recording. If you want to record make sure your cpu can handle both duties with low buffer settings. I try to stay prudent with this, remember that if the computer crashes with the main bus being inserted, you'll lose the signal... and probably the gig! Keep your buffer at 128 and process the main mix as well, ei: dont compress say just the bass channel as you will have phasing problems due to latency. I use mainly inputs 5-8 for hardware inserts. But you also can use the pres with plugs and bypass the consoles preamps. Handy if you find yourself in a venue with a so-so desk. I havent' tried with more than 8 inserts but in theory it should work with external added i/o but watch out for clocking issues. I made templates without the edit window just the mix for levels and plugs for tweaking. Be careful with the mouse movements, a wrong move can have your compressor output blast through the PA! Strap a 1176 on the drum bus and lemme know what u think... Good luck and report back...

If you have the OO2 console, why not just run it in stand alone mode and use the DSP in the box itself? After all, that's why you payed twice as much as a OO2R to begin with.

Actually i do have a 002R, but i don't see how stand alone mode on the 002 would do anything but give a mixer, you can't run plugs on it in stand alone....I also dont see how i'd be limited to a certain number of plugs with a low buffer setting, unless of course i decided to record tracks....i think the only way to know for sure is to try it out!! Thanks for all the input guys, i'll get back to you after ive tested to see if the phasing will be a huge problem. |
