Ha!

Eureka!

An update: I have had limited time to mess with this of late, but finally just about have my live recording rig ready to assemble. I built a wooden case that holds the two recorders with a power strip, a four input mic splitter, and an SD USB2 mic pre. I sent the recorders to Chris at Busman Audio to have his mods done.

If you have read the previous stuff you know that I got the two recorders cascaded and performed a couple of sync tests on them, which they passed with flying colors.

The final step before assembling the whole mess was to get the USB Pre2 connected to the master recorder (giving me 8 channels in that box), then link the two recorders to pick up another six channels for 14 total.

Bottom line: I got the two recorders and the USB Pre2 hooked together, and performed another sync test using a similar method to the previous ones (mic on a metronome through a splitter). I ran a two hour test, looked at and listened to the files, and everything lined up.

Now all that's left to do is mount everything in the case I built and take in on a gig and test drive it. . .

I'll report back in after I record some actual music.

I use a USBPre2 and a Lunatec V3 with my two 680's which allows for 14 tracks of synced recording. The Spdif output from the V3 goes into deck #1. The SPDIF output from Deck #1 goes into the USBPre SPDIF input. THe Spdif output from the Pre2 goes into Deck #2. I control the deck transposts individually and align in post. The Pre2 is designed to sync to an external SPDIF signal automatically.

Well, I am pretty new at all this, but I'm not sure I get what function the USB2 is performing in between the two decks?

Am I reading this correctly? You are getting 8 channels by putting the two on the V3 via spdif into the Master DR-680, then connecting that deck via the USB2 to the second deck.

Do you have the recorders in Cascade mode, with the first recorder set as Master and the second and Slave?
