Question In Line?? Out of Line??

I want to get a little verification on an A/V price quote to see if I'm crazy or not.

I understand that the location changes things and "charge what you think you're worth" and all that...but most folks here in this sub forum are realists, even with all the "everyone wants stuff for free, yada, yada," posts.

We do good work and are experienced. We don't run HD or run gig's like Steve Remote , but do a solid job.

There is an event coming into the school I work at. A university from Illinois is coming in to do a program for at risk youth and options for college.

Anyway, there is going to be a praise band in the auditorium (6 singers, drums, keys, bass, gtr) and some keynote speakers.

There will also be two class rooms with "panels" of speakers for different breakout groups.

My biz partner and I quoted for doing the following:
-One camera in each room (we have 2 Cannon GL2's and one XL2)
-Basic audio in the small "panel/discussion" rooms. Shotgun or lav to small recorder.
-Run live sound for the praise band with monitor mixes, etc.
-Recording for the praise band (up to 16 tracks to PT)

POST:
- Mixing the live band audio
- Putting the keynote speakers and panel events on separate chapters
- Integrating the presentation media into the DVD
- Creating the DVD(s) with Menu and basic print graphic

-All setup and tear down.

Original package quote: $5000.00

I have most of the sound equipment already in the space since I'm the director of the space...but still have to set it up. Just interested on people's thoughts on something like this. On track for the situation?

It's a bit more than I could charge for the same services around here. But if the client
isn't squawking, then you judged the quote well.

Well, they did balk a little bit. They said they hadn't allocated quite that much for A/V services since this is the first event of it's type in the Midwest.

I kind of knew that might be coming.....but my time in sales has taught me to top down sell. It's always easier to offer a smaller package for a little less than try and convince them to spend more. So, I started with the most comprehensive package possible at a somewhat aggressive price point.

Hey, you don't ask for it..you'll never get it.

Hi Howie,

How many people and how many days is this going to take?

I could find people to do this for less, but I could also find people to do it for more. I'm in the DC area.

Norse,

Unfortunately this has turned into a CF of a mess due to space/schedule conflicts...

However...I'll continue the discussion on the basis of the ORIGINAL schedule and demands since it's a discussion around the original situation than what will happen now.

All the actual events would have been in one day. 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM plus a setup and sound check of about 3 hours the evening before. So, it's a ton of random filming/recording in one day with 3 rooms...then sifting through it all for a week or so afterward.

Not sure on how many people/kids in attendance. Anywhere from 50-500. Our space seats a little over 600, but most likely well under that. I'm guessing between 100-200 attendees.

I'm just trying to get a feeling if I was a little brash in the quote. I know we could do work on that level and warrant around that price.

I'll be kind of insulted if they want to capture the thing for like $300. I'll pull the Zoom H4n and my Panasonic 3CCD mid level/prosumer cam out for that. We'll leave the big cams at home for that. But, we'll see. Haven't got a response from the University rep that's running/paying for things.

I'm guessing from the lack of responses...I must be in the thick of the price range for things like that. Otherwise I would have been savaged for asking too much or too little. LOL
