Talking help me choosing schoeps mics...

Finally, schoeps have a distibuitor in Mexico.
I know this are great mics for clasical music, and I want to buy at least a pair to record orchestra and choir.
Can you help me to choose the rigth models for orchestra and choir? I also need to record classical singers and need some advice here.
I´m using now some Neumann and AKG for this kind of music. will schoeps give me better recordings on same spaces?

Thanks for your help.

Que Tal Pepe!
I use to work in the National Center of the Arts in México City, at the Conservatory of Music, and as a part of the arsenal we use to have 2 Stereo pairs of Schoeps with the CMC6 PreAmps, 2 MK2s Omni Capsules & 2 MK4 Cardioid Capsules.
You can't go wrong with any of the Shoeps microphones, its also used a lot on film production with the Hypercardioid capsule MK41, and CUT1 filter for dialog recording on interiors and exterior shots with a boom...
Saludos

I record classical exclusively and have found that the MK2S(not normal mk2) or MK2H are best, coupled with the MK21. Those two pairs are a must have, IMHO.

i have mk21's and mk4 capsules-
i just got them and am still experimenting with them in different configurations and on different sources. has anyone tried mk21's with a jecklin disc? i;m curious.
I can tell you though that there is something really increadible about those mk21's- when i first used them i got chills up my back- my guitar never sounded so good, even the sound of me breathing was beautiful lol.
I'd say for classical and choir stick with the omni capsules (mk2's, 2h's, or 2s's) for a true minimal stereo recording, and then add some more focused cardiods (mk4's or 4v's). the 4v is supposed to be great for vocals too.

Never was fond of the 4s. Had a pair and sold them.I find the mk41 much more useful for recording.

A good thing to start with is the MK5: acoustically switchable omni/cardioid. (But, on the other hand, this mechanism needs service sometimes!)
I like my MK4 pair especially for choir in an oratorio context. Same goes for the MK21 which also are good orchestra mics, especially for winds&brass (I like treble-boosted Neumann KM184 better for strings, they sound more "woody"). As to omnis: in a main pair, I prefer diffuse-field omnis like the Neumann 130/183 type; the "standard" MK2 would rather be a room mic for me.

Any Schoeps capsule is great, they sound really natural and neutral. Very realistic (don't use them if the musicians are not good!). Really depends on what pattern you need. I don't see the sense of the "V" types though.

I also have access to a prototype of the KFM6, which sounds really nice if it's far enough away. Sound that comes in too much from the side gets very bright and nasty. The "head" effect gets lost (of course) when combined with spot mics.

I use them as mains normally. Ive gotten the best results on my end in my settings(the church in the "show and tell" pics) a 17-20 cm spacing, similar to DIN or DIN(a). Kudos to Mr. Rich Mays for the reccomdendation, like these mics much! next on the list are 222s....

Im doing Mattheus Passion this weekend, ill try to throw some samples up.
