Talking Coming Soon: My first ever live recording with splitter snake

I`m all bummed becouse I just came back from a gig with the PA is usually rented for gigs I record.
I`m bummed becouse the guy just bought a Yamaha LS9, which sucks for me becouse I have done about 30 live recordings and all of them with feeds from the Inserts.
I even built myself a custom snake with tip and ring hard-wired, and I was getting pretty good results with my rig. Good for Bolivia´s standards at least, where 95% of live albums are recorded from a stereo feed from the mixer in small to mid venues.
So I was thinking about ordering a snake from USA (I live in Bolivia) to have more professional recordings, but this puts me in a hurry and forces me to do it, and kinda soon.
There is a pretty big gig on 18th June. Luckily for me I found out about a guy who rents 16 CH snake splitters for 50$, so at least for now I`m covered.

However, I have big problems with channel count.
In todays gig all of 32 channels were being used in the mixer, and I can only record 14 :'(
However today had sax, trumpet, string quartet, 4 Guitar channels...
Let`s say the festival will have about 24 channels but no more than 20 at the same time (some bands have 2 or maybe 3 guitars, others have 3 voices, others have keyboards, but no one has all of them)
So what to do??

Here is what I was thinking.
To begin with, I have a Behringer Xenyx 2442 FX Mixer, I think. Tomorrow I`m going to the technician to see if it could be fixed.
So my idea is this:
I split the 16 more important channels, and the 8 mooost important channels of those I plug directly to the 8 preamps of the Tascam.
Let`s say: Bass Drum, Snare Drum, OHs Left and Righ, Bass, 2 Guitars, Lead Vocal.
Then the other 8 splitted channels to the first 8 channels of the Behringer mixer.
Let`s say 3 Toms, 2 Background vocals, 2 Keyboards and Hi-Hat.
The behringer mixer has 10 preamps so I have place for two more channels.
For those I was thinking about connecting two direct outputs from the Yamaha Mixer.
So if there is a band that brings something extra, like sax or trumpet or percussions, I assign that channel from the mixer as a direct out.
So now I have 8 channels to the interface and 10 to the mixer.

Now my problem is that my interface has only 6 remaining inputs to connect the 10 channels from the mixer.
So my idea is to use the 4 buses (mono) to choose which channel to send to the recording channel on the tascam.
If a band uses one keyboard in mono, I assign it. The next one doesn`t and I have room to record the Hi-Hat mic, I de-assign the key and assign the Hi-Hat.
And if it should be required, I can mix two or more channels in one. For example a stereo keyboard to mono.
I could do that with 4 channels, since it has 4 buses, and for the other 2 use just the direct outputs.

So what do you guys think about it?

I want to be sure about every little thing, since It`s my first ever recording with a splitter and it`s one of the biggest works I have done so far.

Thanks in advance!

Ps: Before you mention it, I know I can use two more channels with an Analog to S/PDIF converter.
I'm already going to use that for the stereo ambience mikes
