hi, i've built a computer rig for remotes and the thing is a beast! it's a deep 6 space wood case containing a 4 space aluminum PC case, a rack line mixer for monitoring and one of these KVM-in-a-drawer things that are made for servers. the KVM is a 17" LCD screen that folds down over a full size keyboard with track pad. it's ridiculously heavy, on the order of 30 lbs. overall the case is about 50 lbs and so bulky it's hard to move and carry alone. ![]() i'm thinking of adding 4 casters on the bottom lid just to move it around. so my question is, is this a good idea? this thread has me a bit concerned about transporting it like this. maybe i can add rear supports for the KVM & computer to prevent damage. would a couple of "L" brackets on either side work? are there any suggested casters for this? i found these at Parts Express: Peavy Locking-Brake 2" Caster Set cheers, -charlie

You get what you pay for. I tried casters from Lowes and Home Depot and they were junk. I can't see the link, blocked at work. But casters on a 6 sp rack? Definitely don't put them on the rear lid. Just get a cart.

The brake is handy indeed, but it doesn't look tour grade to me. Also, you might want a larger and more shock absorbent wheel. 4 inch maybe?

I bought a couple of double fifteen speakers with casters on them and immediately went to a local caster shop and got roller bearing casters..huge difference from the standard. Spend a little more and get some heavy duty roller bearing casters and you will be a happy rack and roller... And Home Depot, etc. do NOT carry the best casters.

thanks for the responses so far. i should mention this won't be the main way of transporting the case - i use a Rock n Roller for that. this would be just to get it around one room as it's so hard to manage alone. @GZsound, any recommendations on where to look online? ball bearing casters, if i'm thinking correctly, would allow me to move it in more than a straight line! |

When I was in the rock and roll business, Darnell brand were the only ones we would use. Big, big boxes full of 0000 feeder. They lasted the longest, but probably cost more. The wheels were blue if I recall. D.

Bigger wheels=easier movement. My location sound cart has 20" main wheels, and so it can roll over almost any sort of terrain. Magliners with 10" x 3" pneumatic wheels are standard in the film industry--great for getting over cables etc.. Try NalPac? For hard casters a web search will show lots of possibilities. phil p |
