In a car ?

So Im thinking of hitting the road and building a mobile mix/field recording setup in my car.

In one of these - 1976 Ford Escort Mk2 Panel Van | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Anyone had any experience ? Or any design ideas ? Acoustic ideas ?
Be as extreme as needed i dont mind getting the angle grinder out (again)

I will be removing the passenger seat for easy access and mounting a HD video camera hanging from a central swivel.

At the moment to go in is -

iMac 27"
Saffire Pro 40
Yamaha Hs50m's
Shure Super 55 ( mounted within drivers range on swing )

Cheers

In such a small space the best you can do is make it as dead as possible, then figure on doing close-listening on headphones (you won't have room for
large full range speakers anyhow). For the setup I'd advise making measurements and drawings, then mocking up the interior with scrap cardboard etc so you can actually see how it will work. Sounds like a cool project--post some pix.

The car will never be out of site as it will be my home whilst gathering the recordings from around Australia. All gear will be removable because it is my house studio also.
Plus i have one of these that i will be towing -

for a P.A system and multiple battery power supply that is fully lockable.
Power is one of the main issues.

I will definitely post progress photos.

Anyone know where i can get reasonable quality/cheap 50 + foot mic cable from ? I will be buying 8 lengths of 50+foot at least so maybe some companies do pack deals ?

Totally I had one as my first car 13 years ago in Perth, Australia they were all over UK i think they are kinda quirky huh. Highly modified and had a heap of car stereo gear in that one but smashed it into a concrete wall so have not had a car since.
I just found one cheap and fell into some cash so i thought id team ghetto mod this thing as a mobile studio.

Maybe turn into a performance/tour. Im looking to go as custom as i can with intermediate gear which means cutting, fabricating etc is all good.

DOES NOT NEED TO BE ROADWORTHY !

I live in Melbourne now but plan on doing a trip across the Nullarbor Plain back to Perth and want to get some Australian Desert field recordings.

Nice! No advice unfortunately, but good luck with your field recordings. I'm currently travelling in Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos doing my own recordings - akg, uln-2, mbp.

I guess my one advice would be watch your sh*t, especially your computer - always.

Wasn't that the car that Jessie was driving with Sprog before Toecutter ran her down on his bike, thus creating Mad Max, The Road Warrior?

Just wondering... remember: It's all about the Juice.

Vibrations are certanly going to be an issue... You should always turn off hard drives when you're on the road. Unless they are on some sort of crazy suspension system .

Nice one I was going to post a similar thought just worried about driving somewhere after a session or having to wait. I just had a pc desktop shut down on for that very reason after rehearsal.

I wont be driving whilst any thing is on im more worried the after effects.
