I'm always puzzled by such statements.

Shouldn't it be "with 4 AETA-quality mic preamps and options?"
Ok for those who cannot understand such statement, here is what I meant: AETA's preamps are quality wise in the range of the Nagra's. In fact, the 4minX pres are supposed to be even better than those of the AETA's Mixy, for those who know them and for what it's worth.

In exactly what way?

Since this thread is active again, what I meant was that without precise parameters, such a statement is meaningless.

If the Zaxcom is really that wonderful, and there is no reason why it couldn't be, then I would think they or you would be trumpeting Zaxcom, not Nagra. Unless, of course, it's an exact copy-but that would seem to pose its own ethical questions.

On another subject entirely:
Is Zaxcom doing OK in terms of corporate health? This is not a dig, it is just a question as I had heard otherwise-though this was some time ago. Perhaps someone can enlighten us. Perhaps what I heard was untrue, or perhaps they have returned to corporate health.

It'd be cool if the nomad could also be used as a computer audio interface. This would fill two positions for me...

Downloaded the UI simulation application today. There's a choice for 192 kHz sampling frequency. I've contacted them to see if it's for real or only in the UI demo.

Judging from the forum topic linked above, the answer is "yes"...

Hmmm.

And another post... when I contacted Zaxcom via their Website, they stated that NOMAD does *not* do 192khz SR at this point, that it is not specced for that, and that it *might* at some point be able to support recording at that rate. Just to put the other 192k-related quote into context.

IF it did 192k, it'd be my next recorder for sure.

Check out this video of Nomad - you can get a pretty good idea of its capabilities and operations:

Yes and no.

Yes is possible linking all the gains, but you can get differences up to 6dB (My unit have 3dB of difference on the worse case), until now Zaxcom haven't a workaround, as well, by the moment the Nomad don't have a Soundfield monitoring (But is on the Zaxcom's pending tasks)

Cheers

I use the Nagra VI for this - all four channels gang and are matched perfectly for the Soundfield SPS200 I use.

Workaround: You can assign a fader post fade to as many inputs as you want, and with the gains individually set (after you tested each input with a tone to see how much gain you need to get equal levels), you're good to go. Changing gain (pre fade) is tricky like that but with the NeverClip feature you don't need to change gains that much.
