Bonnie Raitt and Lyle Lovett live

Well, Bonnie Raitt and Lyle Lovett played at Nashville's Opry House last night. Lyle had his Large Band (17 people, counting him) and Bonnie had a surprisingly small group - guitar, bass drums and keys, plus her. (It seems like she had a lot larger band on the last televised thing I saw.) The sound wasn't spectacular where I was sitting, unfortunately, but it was a great concert nonetheless. If they're playing anywhere in your area, go see 'em. It'll do you good. Lyle's set showed how good a tight, well rehearsed band can be, and Bonnies set showed how much fun it can be to let the groove happen. but this leads to today's question - who still goes out to concerts and club dates? And who have you seen that you liked?

Other than than gigs I'm playing, and the band my wife sings with, I don't get out very much at all. This week is rare, since we're also going to see the "Down From The Mountain" tour on Thursday (with front row tickets at the Ryman Auditorium). And I'm about to leave to go hear a jazz trio early this evening before seeing the Time Jumpers later on.

And on one hand it kind of sucks that I've got to leave early tonight to chart some songs for a session in the morning and another later this week, but at least I'm going to hear live music several nights. And y'all know what? It's still better to hear it live than on a record...
