Unhappy Another Year, another Crappy Display of Live Audio from The Grammys.....

Wow, it seems that history is indeed bound to repeat itself... after the fiasce that was the Superbowl halftime show, I would have hoped that someone might have thought to make an effort.......

I am only part way through, but so far the Sugarland debacle takes the cake... that and whoever is callign the video shots getting a big ole shot of the teleprompter telling Kelly Clarkson to " Please Wrap"... nice work fellas.

More reason that the broadcast of the grammys will never be nominated for a grammy........

Wow, not again??? It's hard to believe with all the big time engineers involved.

I recorded the Grammy broadcast since I was not home to view it live. I plan to check it out later today...

Give us some more hints -- What happened with Sugarland? Or should I not ask?

I'm recording and mixing them for a video shoot in Nashville next week -- I better be on my toes... Wait a minute; I'm always on my toes. In any event, I'm still interested in your observations.

Well, I heard directly from one of their techs that minutes before Sugarland's live presentation everything changed in their ears...

Their soundcheck and rehearsal went very well. Everything sounded great. Just minutes before their live performance the whole thing changed for the worst. When they recalled their settings either the ProTools failed to reset to the correct patch or it was operator error because all of a sudden they were getting click track in everyone’s ears. The faders weren’t coming up right. Vocals were coming up in different channels and stuff. They tried to change and fix the issues in advance of their performance. Faders that should have had vocals were backup mics still backstage. That’s why we heard backstage chatter and noise from the A2’s and rapid fader movements by the mix engineers trying to find the correct channels during the live broadcast. Everyone did their best to get it right but…

IMO, I don’t envy anyone in that position. Imagine having to deal with that crap just before your performance? It truly sucks for everyone -- The artist, their engineers, all the audio folks at the venue, even the fans at the venue and everybody at home had to deal with that situation. Whether the problem fell upon the cutting edge technology or because of an operator flaw, it was a truly serious bummer all around. And that's a drag for anyone involved.

Hey, no worries folks, the audio press shall be very cool about everything. Here’s the one of many articles that will be coming out telling us how it really went down... Grammy Tech Staff Emphasizing Latest Technology
