I read about a Dutch movie/theatermaker who appeared to be present during one of the rehearsals with the band of Sly (that is not the Grammy band, but it's own band including Sly himself) and said that the music was freaky and interesting. Kind of based in his old stuff but evolved into a more modernistic minimalistic funk thing. He was not able to speak to Sly, only that Sly said hello to the guy...

Regards,

Roger

He is kind of like... old now. Chances are he just got a little overwhelemd. THAT he can't be blamed for.
True. He seemed a little out of this world to me, but not really pissed. More like he didn“t really notice what was going on in the first place.

Regarding the mixing skills : I absolutely agree that this is in no way to be compared to studio mixing or anything. I was given the great opportunity to watch an MTV show being mixed live. The effort was tremendous since there are so many things happening at once ! And some acts were half playback, so no comparison to the grammys.

Many of the artists on the Grammys were half playback...

Oh, and thanks for blowing it for me .. the telecast must be delayed up here in Canada.. i'm only just past coldplay's lame performance.
It's a very sad strange world when a band like Coldplay can be so popular. Sorry, I don't get their trip at all...

Re: Sly, A buddy of mine who's well versed in Family Stone lore told me he's been famous for pulling stunts like that since his heyday.

At first I thought Sly was Dave Chapelle dressed up. I heard that when sly left the stage he immediately blew chunks. It would of been great if he blew chunks all over that lame ass band. The Grammmys are a joke.

I'm unsure of the proper etiquette here, but on account of this now being the more active thread....

I guess this is what ole Sly was up to, in the 80's, when he was able to put down the booger sugar for a minute. At least we didn't have to bear witness to THIS at the Grammy "tribute".

proceed with caution:
Jesse Johnson & Sly Stone

Damn!!!

I remember this tune. I don't think it is that bad in a 1980's, pre-programmed drum machine, Prince-inspired, BBE exciter, kind of way. Pretty funky if you ask me.

Man, that was cool. And a bit more organic than the footage that I posted. I would venture to guess this was a few years prior to that later Sly stuff. Gotta love the horn section.

I'm not even clicking on the Bootsy/Sanborn link.
