Well thats good news. Now I can get some reviews from users. I look forward to hearing your comments on it. I have nothing against the x48, like I said it sounds great on paper. Now that they are shipping we can start to do fair comparisons.

The x48 will still have to prove itself (and I am sure it will) in the field. Can I ask how much was the total package? Does it include 24 AD/DA?

Have you set it up yet? Please give us your impressions so far.

All of that stuff is in a machine room here. I did not compare the fan noise to Radar. Maybe I should have. Sorry.

Yes its an option I know but I wanted to know if Remoteness got it with teh AD/DA or using his own.

When you start adding up the cost of the converters you start to look at a pretty hefty price for some of us.

However I still think that combining 48 tracks, virtual tracks as well as the DAW in one package is the kind of thing a lot of us are looking for.

If you don't care about the DAW (or already have one) you can get 2 HD24XR as well as 2 RME ADAT cards to interface to your DAW and you are still probably about half the price of an equivalent x48.

By the way I and many others have had zero problems with our Hard disks in the HD24XR.

On the other hand my mac laptop's hard disk had a major crash last week. It spart of life in this techy age.

X-48 in use

I've been testing the machine heavily and we did use it at a recent gig for backup for our regualr backup (taking no chances). It worked fine and I imported the files into Pro Tools and it all worked as it should.

Also ran it here for a more than two hr recording on all 48 tracks at 48k w/ the mixer turned on and it was rock steady

See my other posts about all the tests, but for $6k w/ analog cards this looks like a really nice machine.

A few updates are needed including the ability to copy to AAF files bigger than 2 GB and a more versatile metering screen, but it looks like the X-48 may have been worth the wait.

I think for someone not needing the DAW part (you may already have one) you are better off with 2 Alesis HD24XR (48 AD/DA) in sync. You could still download easily to the DAW in any case. 2 HD24XR will run you 3,120.00 so that is half the cost.

But for someone wanting an all in one solution there is nothing else like the x-48 right now.

That may be true is all you want is 48K not 96K. Correct?

If Tacsam continues with support and develop the X-48 for the same number of years as they took to put this item on the street after they promised, then all will be good. Years ago I purchased their "FLAGSHIP" SX1 that they marketed, sold, then dropped like a hot potatoe. the SX1 was actually a good piece of equipment-- it just died a tragic death because someone decided to pull the plug on it and nary an explaination or apology was offered to the SX1 owners. BEWARE OF TASCAM.

Correct. You will get only 24 tracks of 96 with the 2 units. Personally I only record at 96 when I only need a few tracks and only because its there. I am not sure if I hear a difference. All other times I use 48 and I am quite happy with it.

I don't really want to start a X-48 vs Radar vs HD24XR war as they all 3 are great units.
Just pointing out alternatives.

Didn't an SX-1 update come out like a week ago?

I have access to an X-48, it's quieter than my G5 and seems solid to me.
