Congratulations!
I embarrassed to say I haven't heard it yet. But it's on my list, for both music and engineering. I'm looking forward to it.

As some may already know, this recording was originally broadcast live on Toast Of The Nation from NPR Music and produced by Mark Schramm, Thurston Briscoe and Becca Pulliam for WBGO-FM under the musical direction of Sue Mingus.

Duke Markos was the recording engineer.
David Tallacksen and Josh Webb were the broadcast engineers.
I was the EIC/chief engineer and provided the mobile audio facility.
Tom Swift mixed and mastered the recording.
Sue Mingus and Seth Abramson produced this fabulous record.

Congratulations Mr. Remote

Congratulations Mr. Remote on your 3rd Grammy win last night for your participation on Mingus Big Band - live at the Jazz Standard recording.

Steve, I've known you over 30 yrs. You're the same person I met all those years ago. Always confident, never conceited about your abilities. Always willing to teach those who have respect for the craft you've mastered. You've forever been a genuine person never straying from that trait. It's with the greatest admiration that I'm proud to call you my friend. You deserve recognition for your work and the accolades that come along with it. Bravo Mr. Remote. All the best and continued success.

Not only is this forum the finest, it also has the deepest talent pool, and Steve, not only a great administrator and good guy, he also wins prizes for his talents.

A tip of the hat to you, Steve. Keeping the flame of jazz alive deserves another one, so, two tips of the hat.

Wow, all I can say is, who do I make the check out to?

That said, I'm not sure I'm worthy, but I seriously appreciate the sentiment.

Thanks!

Duke Markos and (some input from) I came up with the following list...

kick...........M88
kit.............TLM103
snare.........TLM103
oh L...........M160
oh R...........M160

bass amp....MD409
bass DI.......KT LBB100
bass...........KM84

piano High...C414TLII
piano Low....C414TLII

sax.............KMS105
sax.............KMS105
sax.............KMS105
sax.............KMS105
sax.............KMS105

trombone.....TLM103
trombone.....TLM103
trombone.....TLM103
tuba............TLM103
trumpet........M260
trumpet........M260
trumpet........M260

talk..............KMS105
host.............KMS105

amb front L...DC96B
amb front R...DC96B
amb rear L....DC96B
amb rear R....DC96B

The magic of the band and the 'on point' capture from Duke made this record sing.

Too bad you've got no decent mics for saxes and vox...

=)

And, what an all-Deutschemic lineup...! (MiLabs excepted, of course, being Nordic rather than Teutonic...)

KMS105s work very well for saxes, especially with handling noise since the players were adjusting them for their solos and such.

Congratulations Steve. I've added it to my shopping list.

Anyone else think we need more categories (any categories for that matter) at the Grammys specifically for live recorded music?

CD Baby has delivered! I haven't been as pleased with a $20 music purchase since Patty Griffin's "Downtown Church" last year. Totally different vibe, but huge satisfaction on both counts. The Mingus Big Band album sounds great, with detail galore and just enough grit to keep it real... i.e., no question the performance is a live capture in a "real" venue, but the sound is pristine. Especially like the swirling saxes and big, bite-y trombones. Niiiice!
