It takes a strong minded person to keep that "high road" mindset.

I wish the media lens could zoom out just a little.
So true; having the willpower is key!

I was surprised that they were even there in the first place...I said to myself...real music finally makes its way to the grammy's and they totally deserve that award. Ive listened to their music from the beginining and to be honest their previous albums were better, but their latest is still miles above most of what aired at the grammies...avett brothers and muse though i dont like them were among the others..that took me by surprise.

In my world this is huge.
I produce rock records that actually feature musicians playing together, they also write their own material,so to have the Grammys show favour that is inspiring me, I love real bands, real performances, and lifer artists.
When Katy Perry or Justin Bieber lose a Grammy, they are ok, they sell tons of records!! They are great performers, yeild hooky singles, but ain't album of the year quality.

When Arcade Fire win a Grammy, real musicians and rock bands have a lot of hope.
+1. It's now an expanded mainstream music scene.

I tended to knock Arcade Fire for their lack of melodic depth, but they *are* melodic minimalists it seems (hopefully not entirely & forever). But their concepts, themes, imagery and lyrics are EXCELLENT. ----- The Arcade Fire - Ready To Start Lyrics -----

Here's a interesting insider's view (their manager's) of Arcade Fire's appearance on the Grammys. "they own their own masters and copyrights" Awesome.

Many releases are now licensed rather than backed by a label. That's more the norm than the exception these days.

Katy Perry's big hit song (chorus notably) is a direct ripoff of the New Radikals' "Get What You Give".
