Talking Super Bowl Open - Christina Aguilera and what about that Glee girl?

Is it too much to ask to have a modicum of taste and sing it straight?? Really?

I guess at least Christina can sing somewhat. The Glee girl sounded like she was tunelessly choking on a donkey's knob! LMAO!!

Talking Christina Aguilera - Super Bowl Open

1. Sing the right words to the national anthem please

2. Does she really need to put some kind of trill or embellishment on every note? 5 grammys?! How?!

Yeah I didn't like the trills either. It sounded as if she transposed the key down to help her on the high note. Kudos for that!

I said the same thing out loud here. LOL I actually like her voice but I am so tired of the "Trill embellishment's" as well. It's so annoying now. I dislike it as much as autotune these days.

OMG. I thought she was great. Yeah she lost focus and forgot the words at one point. Then almost went some place else but recovered.

I guess all of us know how it feels to sing the national anthem in front of millions and millions of people, some watching from all over the world, with tech people and producers jumping down your throat and tremendous pressure every where. Yeah, how silly. You guys should cut her some slack. Next time you do that give a call so I butcher your every attempt.

I thought she sounded very good, minus the overt trills. The minimal trills weren't too distracting. IMHO of course.

Lol. It's all personal taste! But you know, I know how the song goes. So for me room for interpretation is more than welcome.

I actually performed the national anthem at the Georgia dome this summer for a crowd of about 20,000 (thats 20,000 music educators and musicians btw) and an even bigger online audience. So I stand by my claim I just closed my eyes and went to a happy place

For someone thats performed it as much as her in so many high pressure situations, she should really be used to it by now.

In fairness it's a bloody terrible song anyway but she did make a balls of it and not just the lyrics. She's lucky the Glee girl was on before her because she was even worse!!

Cheers, Henry!

Maybe she got confused between the 1st verse and the 4th. I had a music teacher once make us memorize 3 verses of it! One of the verses she didn't like, so we were off the hook on that one.

I didn't like it but then I don't like her singing style.

I predict that we shall be seeing a BEP moan post adjacent to this one, in ooh.. 30 mins from now.

Well, since some of you want street cred to make a post, I sang the Anthem on Monday Night Football in 1985 when the Bears played the Packers. There were no in-ears then and the PA stack was at the opposite end of the field, so I had 3-4 seconds of delay to deal with. I've sung it hundreds of times and never forgot the words. Hell, have a freakin' cue card if you're worried about it.

Yeah, the over embellishment of the melody is really geting old. I think it would have been cool to shoot some pyro off behind here while she was singing. Have to give her props for at least singing it live, instead of lip synching.

Renee Flemming, the Opera star, blew the Anthem during the World Series a few years ago. Sports radio lampooned her for months after that. I would expect the same to be forthcoming.

Well no matter how bad it was (and it was) Aguilera's performance was a towering tour-de-force when compared to the Black Eyed Peas. So little taste, dignity and talent all on one stage.

A very aggressive, almost violent rendition of the anthem. Flubbed the lyrics. Stupid ornamentation on any note longer than an eighth-note.

"next..."

But better than the BEPs performance at half. Worst mix in history, exposing a non-talented singing dance troupe that relies on auto-tune and chants. Fergi had some nice lined towards the end, though.

Honestly, I didn't even notice it.

Buncha tone deaf weasels here criticizing one of the most successful singers of our time.

You guys crack me up. Stupid freekin' words anyway. I can't stand that institutionalized shit.

Her performance was likely better than any here could pull off, by a landslide.

And I can't STAND the BEP, so I didn't even bother watching. That is DEF a waste of my time.
(as opposed to whining about it on GS ).

Well, I can tell by your smiley that you are being facetious, but I call myself a DJ because I DJ every weekend, professionally. It's where I get most of my income. I started producing music before I started DJing though.

Anyway, thank you for going off topic.

I'm going to try and get back on topic here. Football sucks. All team sports suck and have no purpose. It's like watching cavemen argue over a rock.

People still go to clubs? How quaint and neanderthal all at once!

Team sports have a very defined and specific social purpose. Whether you think that purpose has value or not is another thing. For myself I don't think that it does have value but I enjoy it despite that fact.

Yeah, who cares about the words, right?

Speak for yourself about being able to perform.
