Question to Mobile I/O 2882 and Mobile ULN-2 users

What is the difference btw the DSP 2882 and the non-DSP unit? Does the DSP have any influence on multitracking apps?
And can you use the ULN-2 as a A/D converter to a 001 let's say?
Just turn it on and plug a spdif cable on it's outputs and you're rolling... is it like this? Or do you need the FW connection?

Re: Question to Mobile I/O 2882 and Mobile ULN-2 users

The 2882 DSP has one extra SHARC chip that will allow onboard plugins to be used in real time from the MIO console. This DSP power has nothing to do with DAW software, although routing may be done to and from the DAW into the MIO console. The non DSP 2882 only has 1 SHARC chip that handles the audio MATRIX routing which is quite extensive.

The ULN2 retains its routing snapshot as long as power remains present after unplugging the firewire cable. I am not sure if the last used snapshot will be present when you unplug the power and repower the unit up without a firewire connection. I have a feeling it would then be reset to the default routing snapshot which in itself may route audio from the analog inputs to the AES output and vice versa. I will have to investigate this on my unit to be sure and get back to you.

Thanks MPR3... what kind of on board plugins are avaliable w/ the 2882?
So to use those plugins, you should have both the DAW and the MIO console running at the same time right?

Hey, if you could check the standalone thing for me, that would be awsome...

Hi Jeronimo,

As mpr3 said with the DSp. But no plugins are available yet. Currently under development. THe exact implementation is still dependednt on what they come out with... could change.

WIth the ULN2 you can save upto 10 snapshots that can be recalled at any time whilst there is power attatched. So you can easliy use it as A/D. I have several snapshots setup for doing just that with different clocking options and sample rates. You configure it with the console and store youre setings in one of the internal memories. You can then acess these via two buttons on the front in 'stand alone mode'.

You can also track directly with the console in X, it is in beta though at the moment.

hope this helps,
let me know if you want any more info, I have both the 2882 and ULN2
best wishes,
Tom

Hey tom_c thanks for your replies!!! It helped a LOT!!!!!
How do they sound?? I was thinking why getting a mini-me for more money and less possibilities??? Have you by any chance compared both?
Right now I plan to use the ULN2 as a pre+A/D into my 001... but I hope I let PT LE go by very soon and start using either logic 6 or dp4 as my main DAW... then, I'll put the 001 away and get a 2882.
Thanks!
