Exclamation Kenny Werner's Cosmocentric at the Blue Note Jazz Club.

Who wants to come down to the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC tonight or Sunday?

We're recording Half Note Recording artist Kenny Werner's Cosmocentric with the "Bread Mobile."

The quintet features Kenny Werner, Davide Sanchez, Kenny Wheeler, Scott Colley and Brian Blade.

We shall also be there on Sunday -- any takers? Shows are at 8:00PM and 10:30PM.

Call Adam's cel phone at 914.450.6077 if you're interested.

How did it go?

That's a killer band... Kenny Wheeler AND Brian Blade on the same gig.

I get to record Scott Colley at the end of the month at a concert in Baltimore... how did you record him? Was he in to the sound?

chris,

I've bid on a few dates in Austin...
Haven’t been there yet but, I’m looking forward to the experience.

We've been pretty close to TX. We were in New Orleans for the Neville Brothers and in Mobile, AL recording/broadcasting with Faith Hill.

------------------------------------------------

Robobo1 ,

Yeah man! David Sanchez: tenor, Kenny Wheeler: trumpet, Scott Colley: bass and Brian Blade on drums. It was an awesome line up for sure.

Please say hello to Scott and tell him I said, "He never finished explaining what we heard on those sensitive recording mics...

man, Scott has a great bass sound going for him -- Very strong and powerful.

Steve,

Thanks for the pics! Unfortunately I just found out today that the concert recording won't happen. Red Tape. But there are studio plans in the works....

Thanks!

So, we just finished a five day mix session for Kenny's new live record for Half Note...

This time around we wanted to mix the session in Elroy.

Back in February, we tracked the live session with only 16 tracks. I wanted to rent a small Neve desk to sum these few tracks. My first call was to Ezra Audio... We used Ezra's 16 channel Kelso for the task.

His Kelso was in mint condition...

We patched the 16 tracks out of PT HD into a variety of EQs and compressors and limiters (see photos) then into the Neve. The stereo output of the Neve went into two channels of our Crane Song Spider, The two stereo reverb returns (Sony & TC) went into four more channels of the Spider. The output of the Spider went directly back to the PT rig digitally. I used Tascam's US2400 DAW controller for tactile control of the PT rig.

I use our Studio Technologies Studio Comm to monitor between the Neve, PT rig, and two track recorders. We mixed this record on Genelec 1031s with a Bose Wave radio as our alternate monitoring source.

Checkout the photos below...

I'm thinking someone may say...

Yeah, but what about the left side of Elroy?
I only see the right side of the control cabin.
Dude, what gives?

Okay, here's what the left side was looking like...

Steve, I really enjoyed the photos of the mix session, it's like a photo-documentary. and then it dawned on me.... that's a mobile setup! I know I've been reading along with the thread for a while, (and enjoying it) but when I saw the pics, it didn't sink in that the Breadmobile was actual mo-bile. I just figured it was a catchy name for your studio becuase you spend a lot of money on gear. when I think remote (at least down here in the islands) it's my trusty mackie onyx, powerbook, some mics and miles of mogami. that setup is beyond impressive! now i really wish I would have been in NYC to catch the show!
I did have one question, actually it's my wife who wants to know how you power all that stuff up? are you self contained with generators or do you run a line (or lots of lines) from the grid? down here during Carnival there are calypso and soca bands that play on the backs of trucks (I wouldn't call them floats) and they usually have several generators going on each float. there is so much noise in the system that it's hard for me to listen to. but with the walls and walls of loudspeakers strapped to the front and back of each float it gets pretty drowned out by the music, and obscene amounts of rum doesn't hurt either...

Dave

(this is actually one of the smaller setups for the children's parade)

Hey Dave,

Hey The Bread Mobile is our smallest vehicle; Jethro is the oldest mobile and our mid-sized truck. Elroy is our largest truck with it's dual expanding walls.

The name "The Bread Mobile" came from the fact that it looks like a bread truck and during its first year on the road it made us a ton of bread. It really was the bread winner of the fleet so, when my client/producer friend named it "The Bread Mobile" the name stuck.

All the trucks have transformer isolation and other AC power goodies. Camloks are used to interface the trucks with shore power. When power is not available via the building or other land source we bring in a generator. On big shows, especially live TV shows we use large generators and sometimes there are two there as a backup to the backup. Three power sources may be available on these types of gigs.
