Talking Mic, Console & Speaker hire in NYC...

Hey,
I've got an orchestral live recording coming up in April on a project that was started in Poland late last year...
we've got the orchestra flying to NYC from Poland and there is great expense involved all round... so I need to make this work...
problem is that I'm not from NY, and will need a few extra microphones and bits and pieces that are not available at the venue...
what I need is:
6x Neumann KM84
8x Neumann U87
2x AKG 414's
you know... just a few basics... haha...

I also need a live console, preferable a nice analogue midas...
but something digital maybe ok... ie digidesign venue is ok for this because it's got the PT LE hook up so that's nice...
finally I need a set of JBL VerTec subs (2x VT4882 or VT4881)

If anyone has any ideas of good hire companies in NY would be greatly appreciated!

Dreamhire would definitely be worth a look, they're one of the bigger rental houses. I think they're in Long Island.

+1 on Dreamhire.

They're actually now located in Long Island City, Queens - right across the bridge from Manhattan. They can do deliveries to Manhattan or Brooklyn based studios or venues easily as well.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Dreamhire is one good option.

But Jim Flynn is also a great option - especially for microphones:

Another lesser-known option is Professional Sound Services. They are more oriented towards true field recording and film sound, but are a great resource:

Tell Rich Topham I sent you. This way, after saying "Rob who?", he'll charge you double . Just kidding.

Another often-overlooked resource is the moderator of this forum. Steve won't toot his own horn here, but Aura Sonic has an incredible rental list and very reasonable prices.

+1 on Jim Flynn and +100 on Steve Remote/Aurasonic. Steve has provided me with equipment on many shows, ranging from a pair of 414's to an entire mix truck in a custom configuration. If he doesn't have everything, call Jim for the rest.

Regards;
Danny

I'd recommend Steve, he's got the gear and the know how to help with any questions you might have.
