Question Where to buy simple stereo mic holder

Perhaps I've lost my mind, but I can not seem to find anywhere online selling a stereo mic attachment that I can use for XY/ORTF. I've seen expensive DPA ones (which I don't need) and one from OnStage that doesn't allow the mics to swivel out.

I tried MF, Sweetwater, etc... Any help would be much appreciated.

Muchas gracias,
Rob

Hello, I actually just bought one of these myself, and it did take a lot of time to find them.
Here are some links you may find helpful. Depending on the size of your microphones, you may be fine with one like this:

I personally use one that swivels like this one for maximum adjustability:

Or the slightly higher end AKG model:

Good Luck!

mine is pieced together parts from onstage, it's a stereo bar with a swivel piece that i stole from another accessory that screws onto the mic stand and then the bar screws onto that... oh, and those atlas ones are tough to do coincident... it's so wide that you have to have really long mics, and i guess ortf is harder, unless you aim them out... those others are really good, and there's one i've seen behind the counter at samash that is a rod and the center mount and two mic mounts can slide on it so you can set it however wide you want. it's like 15 bucks i think, but super worth it.

Thanks both of you for the info. I agree that the atlas one is a bit limiting (like the onstage one I found), but the other two are exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks!

This was recommended by Andy Hong in Tape Op. I bought mine through Amazon and it works great and is cheap.

The trick to doing coincident diaphragms with an Atlas TM-1 is to use the central threaded hole for one of the mics, and have the support stand attached to an outside hole. This not only puts the mic clips close enough together to align their diaphragms, but the offset height of the center hole means you don't have to futz around with extension tubes to stack the mic bodies.

(BTW, ORTF mics are aimed outward by definition.)

I also really like the Shure A27M for both XY & ORTF arrays.

Nice to see someone committing to the Sabra mounts- anyone here try them yet?

I use them all the time ... different length hex rods for use with wide ORTF and a/b with Schoeps and Earthworks mics. Haven't had any problems (yet).

Strict ORTF might be a problem with Sabra-Som because there is no vertical stagger for the mics. You'll need to add a spacer for one channel.

I usually record in wide ORTF and it's great for that. Not so good with XY unless you add a couple inches of spacers. This thread reminds me that I need to buy a different stereo bar to make life simpler for me. But I will always keep my SabraSom around. I keep the shockmounts attached and it packs fairly flat.

I recommend the Bogen 3110 triple microphone support available at the micsupply.com link above, B&H, or you can probably order it from any photography store that carries Bogen products. I mention it in this post.

Really versatile and solid.

I have two of these:

Insanely cool. Holds up to five mics; very flexible positioning. And no annoying hinge.
