presonus 24.4.2 firewire question

the two firewire ports, do they both send the same signal.... so if i connected two laptops to this box, would i be able to record redundantly?

To my knowledge... no... you cannot record to two disparate systems. But I've never tried it. I generally use one to the computer, one to the HDD. It can also be used to daisychain an additional interface (FireStudio, etc) to allow more channels to be recorded.
From TFM:

FireWire Ports. There are two standard 6-pin FireWire 400 ports on the back of the StudioLive. Either port can be used to connect your StudioLive to a FireWire port on your computer. If your computer has a 4-pin connector (commonly found on laptops), you will need to purchase a 4-to-6-pin adaptor or cable. These adaptors and cables can be found at your local computer supply store. Use the second FireWire port to connect additional FireWire devices (such as external hard drives) to your computer or to daisy-chain an additional StudioLive mixer. You can connect two StudioLive 24.4.2 mixers to create a standalone, large-format mixing console.

For what it does, price-point notwithstanding, it's an amazing bit of technology. I've solved the backup question with a $900 HD24 and three DB25 breakouts. And, since I make way more money with it as a live desk in corporate meetings land, it was a no-brainer as to my purchase. Best $3K I've ever spent on audio gear.

YM, of course, MV.

I don't think you could use 2 laptops with the two FW outputs of any device that had them (interface, board, drive)--there can only be one "brain" in the series. If I am wrong about this someone please explain how this could work.
