Thought this new product from Tascam might be of interest to some on here. I spotted it in the Studiospares catalogue which came this morning. I believe it retails around the £3500 mark which is much more costly than Joeco but significantly cheaper than the Sound Devices 788T - totally different market intentions clearly. We do quite a lot of chamber music, choral and live orchestral work where the track count can often but contained within 8 tracks. 16 would be the sweet spot for us to be honest - I am guessing these units can be slaved together. At the moment we use Sadie LRXs which is fine but it would be nice not to have to bother with a computer sometimes. Matt |

I considered it some time ago and I'm sure others have too. You can get a portable Nagra VI or Sound Devices 788T for about the same money, with more features. A recorder for 8ch DSD and PCM might be interesting. Korg may have one someday. P.S. It uses CF cards. Tascam's 8ch DR-680 uses SDHC cards. |
