I have quite a few Gefells in my collection. And have used almost the entire line for various projects over the years. Very nice sounding, very well built microphones.

I also have some Schoeps mics in my arsenal.

There is a large difference in the design philosophies between the 2 companies, however both are excellent.

I certainly prefer either to the DPA's. The new Neuamn KM184 digital mics are pretty spectacular as are the Sennheiser 8000 series digital mics.
But I find I prefer the sound of the Gefells and the Schoeps. It could be I like the sound of my pre's as well.

If you are looking for a little better depth and low end response, I would choose the Gefells.

Regards;
Danny

It is a fight between my rational (Schoeps) side or the romantic (Gefell) side. They are both high quality and cost about the same (within 400€ for a pair). At the moment I am leaning towards Gefells (quieter, cheaper, different, more "exotic"). Help anyone?

Here at least something:

RECORDER M950

RECORDER MK21

DRUM M950

DRUM MK21

or nylon string classical guitar in comparison with Schoeps MK22:

GUITAR M950

GUITAR MK22

Recorder sounds smoother on the M950 but has a bit more of instrument-handling noise in my opinion.

On the drum the lower freq beat sustains shorter on the MK21.
The M950 has a more explosive sound.

The M950 sounds smoother on the louder part of the guitar sample.
The MK22 also sounds round, but also more natural at the same time.

I didnt hear the instrument with my ears, wish I did.

Hope you"ll post those "same take" files soon,

thanks a lot for these!

Thanks Ivo for these new samples.
All great mics (yes the M300 is not in the same group)
And I really love these MK22

Listened to guitar only as that's the instrument I've dedicated my life to.
My preferences:
MK2
M950
MK22
M930
MK21
M300

Thanks for posting yet another wonderful test, Ivo!
