Yes, you're too cautious. While I wouldn't call it limited it's not as full range as something like a 421 or 414. As far as flexible, maybe. I wouldn't use it for overheads or anything that needs a lot of detail up top or a lot of bottom. But, I've used it for things like triangle and been pretty happy with it. I also used it to record a guy playing ketchup bottles filled with water and it sounded good. It took the sharp edges off and rounded it out a little bit.

Wow, alpha, cutting it close. Reminds me when we built WireWorld and I had a band coming in from Japan on a certain date. When i picked them up from the airport, my friend was still installing the toilet at WireWorld. Had to convince the band that they are really tired from that long flight and we should start a day later...spin Never heard the Baby Bottle, but on the last session we tried a Dragonfly on a 69 (4X25W) Marshall cab and it sounded very good. |

you could of really sold them on they gained a day anyways coming from japan right? how long is that flight anyways? well, i got almost everything done. i wont have the hardwood floors in or the trim work done for this band but it wont matter that much. everything other than that is done. i just need to refix this pipe and put the tiles back in below it tonight. taking tomorrow off and fix my pond. then pick up after saturday and pop an album out mixwise and then put the floor in next week, trim work. then i am DONE for a while. |

Back to backline. I have a decent amount of stuff. I'm a percussionist, co I have lots of that. I have a Gretsch drum-set that only a select few get to use (I need to get over being overprotective of it.) I'm snare drum and cymbal obsessive, but I I'm careful about letting people use the cymbals as well. I've got a re-issue flower Tele and a standard Strat. A pre CBS Bassman head. A Mesa 2x12, and Agular 4x10 (that I won in a contest I don't remember entering!). A Heathkit guitar amp with 2x12 cab. A Whirly, a Hammond M3 and Leslie 145. And the Schultz piano I grew up with. I will also have on semi-permanent loan a Marshall Mk, a Mesa SC 2 and Laney 4x12. Options are good!

At Michael Wageners suggestion I bought he Engl Savage 120 Special Edition,I am hoping to get a custom Engl 'recording 4x12' cab that has different speaker types either side...(my idea) they are testing feasability / operation of it now (or so I am led to belive) A gtr guru friend said to me and it stuck.. 'If you want it to sound like all hell is breaking lose, all hell better HAD be breaking lose!" So I went for the large amp.. the tone controls and 4-6 different sound types are pretty damn comprehensive! I have an eye on getting a beat up open backed 2 x 12 for those AC30 style grtr parts.. I am excited about also being able to run the following out via the Engl power amp (insert loop) stage. Marshal JMP-1 Digitech Valve FX Sans Amp Amp farm + any visiting sound souces

I've never spent money on instruments/ amplifiers specificly for studio use. When I opened 7 years ago, I used the gear I had from being a player. Mesa/Boogie Triaxis pre/ Simul-class stereo power amp (2) Mesa/Boogie 1x12 Celestion cabs Univox tremolo amp Marshall 1x15 cab SWR Studio 220 amp SWR Goliath II 4x10 cab Steinberger w/ Duncan electronics custom plexi bass w/ EMG electronics Ludwig 1966 3-pc. kit Over the years, friends have asked me to house their stuff for them while they're out of the country, and they ended up staying long term (the people there, the amps here.) Ampeg B-25B amp Ampeg V4 amp Ampeg 4x12 cab Fender Twin Reverb Sound City 120 amp Gibson SG Then there's the stuff a moving friend just gave me this week. Ludwig 16" floor tom - the piece I needed to complete my kit as a 4 pc. Zildjian 14" hi-hats and 21" custom A rock ride Americana Excelsior amp - an accordian/ guitar combo amp, 2x12 driven by two EL34s plus one 6" driven by a single EL84 as a separate Hammond reverb speaker. Footswitchable tremolo/ reverb and an amazing overdrive when it's cranked. My favorite amp so far. Last summer he gave me a Huntington spinet piano that had never been played because he needed to use it for one overdub. There is an upside to having a bunch of unstable musicians as friends and clients...
