Thread Starter | Please, how will sound a mix made in a farm ...?
Hi friends , how will sound my mix if i make it in an open field? Mean, without reverberation surfaces, no acoustic treatments, no bass traps . In fact, no nothing, just the trees and the grass...( litlle poetic ? )...Im curious, not tested yet.

Sounds like fun but considering that you couldn't get away with most condenser mics outside even on a calm day you would need to make some compromises in terms of mic choice (dynamics and shotguns with heavy duty windscreens). A lot of those early reflections (and later ones too) are what give a rich sound IMO so I would expect it would be a bit stark. The effect would probably be a cool one. Like singing around the campfire...make sure its on a night with crickets...
Best,
Silas

In an open field you are going to record pretty much what you hear in your headphones (if they are relatively good and you carry them).
I also think that could be a very interesting experiment to monitor and perform a mix in an open field!!
Cheers..............Joaquin.

Having mixed probably 200 live shows out of doors, you will be judicious in your mic placement, EQ and windscreens- and get great results. I think you should do it, and I expect that if you do you will have a great time! Schedule it for GREAT WEATHER.

are you putting down a surface like plywood? Sounds like an interesting idea, but some of the basic control room concerns come to mind, like the relationship between the board and the monitors... ambient noises levels... stable clean power... I know you don't like computers, so having tape machines or other electronics exposed to the elements makes me nervous, but... having never tried mixing outdoors myself, I am interested in the results... sounds like fun..

So , im imagining do the mix in a open field, e. You did capture the "spirit" of my thread.Thanks. |
