Is this a very good portible vocal recording chain ?

Hi,

I want to track and record my girl's vocals into a laptop DAW with a EMU 1616M audio interface. We will be doing jazz sessions.
I was thinking of using following recording chain:

tube mic -> preamp -> compressor -> EQ/de-esser -> A/D (Emu with protools convertors)

*Tube mic would be:
MXL U67i / Neumann U47 / AKG Solidtube

*Preamp would be:
A-designs Pacifica

*Compressor would be:
Aphex compellor 320D (for invisible compression)

*EQ would be:
EL Lil' Freq (with its excellent de-esser)

Now, would this be a great setup ?
Or would it be better to replace the pre, comp and eq by something like a Milennia TD-1 or Pendulum Quartet (also with great de-esser) ?

Hope for your feedback,
Thanks!

yeah why compress at all?
with the rest of the chain you can:
1. record some audio
2. trade it for a mountian of cash and buy a house (U47)

as for the choices, single pieces are nice, you can combine em with something else later. everything in one box will give you more power for the space, and is more portable. it's a tradeoff between more different colours (more boxes) vs one colour (all in one box). with choices listed you can't go wrong.

Try the Aphex Channel.

Great tube preamp with compression, De-Esser EQ and Aural Exciter.
Great as an instrument D.I. too.
Only runs $999.

Use the best mic you can get your hands on.
Dump the compressor since it's not needed.
Use a good recorder.

Focus all of your attention on getting and using (set-up in the right position) a great microphone. Don't use a cheap mic or you'll end up with garbage.

Garbage in---garbage out.

Make sure everyone is in tune.

Don't screw around.

I get great results with:

akg 414 xls - uln-2 - mbp. Simple, compact, sounds fantastic.
