Question standalone macbook recording setup

Which best setup to record at least 16 tracks on a macbook pro?

For example, but i'd like to hear other combinations, in my case i have already a presonus digimax lt and a motu 828mk2 and i have the opportunity to buy another digimax lt and the 2408 mk3. How to best combine them?
I'd like not to use an external mixer or mic preamps.

Well, with the digimax and the 828, you already have the capacity to record 16 tracks if you link them via ADAT --- are you already doing this? Are you looking to upgrade this setup? It would help people to make suggestions if you could tell us what you don't like about your current setup, what you would like to change, your budget, etc, etc

you mean that the digimax's adat output should go into the 828's adat in and then i'll have 16 tracks?

yes, and vice versa.

then set up an aggregate device using the macbook's audio-midi setup utility, select the aggregate device in your DAW preferences and you're good to go.

Correct. No need at all in this case to go messing about with aggregate devices!

I'm just curious --- given that the Digimax's only output is via ADAT, what are you currently using it for? £800 is quite a lot to spend on an ADAT expander to not know exactly what it does!

I use the digimax in combination with a Yamaha 01 to record 24 tracks into a fostex d2424lv. Since that setup is installed in a customized van which is a live recording mobile i did not want to mess it up to record in closed locations. I asked my question just as a consult before making attempts and detach any unecessary stuff.

Thanks a lot, i was supposing that i would need a sort of multiple adat input interface with a firewire/USB output.

Ahhhhh, I see, cool. Well, you sohuld have no probs using the digimax and 828 together. I guess if you can afford the second one, so you don't have to keep swapping it between the van and the mobile setup, go for it
