Question live performance

well i am a composer/arranger for many years now , i have a good experience into music arranging , i use nuendo as a host , the many vsti in the market .
now to the question , what do u think for live perfermance do i need to use ? i will be performing with a percussionist ?
ofcurse i need a laptop/soundcard and a midi controler , those two i have them but i need to
know what host would be most flexilble for live ,
i have in my mind 'abelton live' , 'reason' , that two i guess are the most winner in live performing .
what do u think guys , any help ?
thanks in advance .

Ableton Live is pretty good for live work - tons of people use it, and it works just fine. If you're going to move to another host, make sure you can port your projects over (you'll have to do this manually unfortunately), that you can use it and it's not too difficult. Many people attest to Live being simple to use, though, and it should support everything you're using in Nuendo. Live would be a good choice, in other words.

Reason could pose some problems - It's not a VST host, it's a closed architecture system. That means that other than any samples you've got, you are limited to what's already in the program. That means you won't be able to use any VST inside Reason, so you'd have to mix everything down and play it as a sample in Reason, run Nuendo rewired with Reason or program Reason so that it sounds similar to what you've been doing in Nuendo if you were going down that route. Personally I think this option would only be a good idea if you were already using Reason primarily, but if you want the challenge or you think it would be a better option, then it's up to you (I tried using Linux for similar reasons :).

So, in brief, if you're getting a new host, out of what you've already suggested, Live is the better option as far as I can tell.

Live is good for Live. I'm setting up some songs for use with my band. I'l let you know how it turns out.

Live and Reason have a relationship that many find compatible.

For myself I've been dropping DP audio clips into Live for looping and playback. It's not an easy programm to get the hang of, at least it hasn't been for me. But once you get it it makes sense. It just takes time to figure out how best you want to work - if you're going to set up a controller, in my case footcontroller, which is another headache - and how you want to trigger sounds or sections like bridges, choruses, etc. or whether you simply want to render the audio . . . There's a lot of set up in terms of thinking how you want to work. But I love the program. There's nothing else quite like it.
