Talking Traveling to Denver from NC...

Fellow Slutz-

I'll be driving from Graham, NC to Denver, CO next week. I'm taking I-40 to Nashville and then going up to I-70. Anybody want to meet up? I'll be in Nashville for a couple of days and then in Kansas for a night.

Spent the last month at Dark Pines Studio Welcome to Dark Pines Studio doing some cabling and lots of other tech work http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...3&l=7ded2ed069, and I went to Orlando and finally got most of my gear! I'll be engineering a live broadcast of Opera Colorado on Nov. 6 and needed my stuff. I now have a 5x8 enclosed trailer, so I'm willing to go where the work is.

Are you from Denver? I'm going to school at the University of Denver as a music performance major.

What is it your doing exactly for opera colorado? I'd certainly be interested in seeing how you run the broadcast

When are you coming through TwangTown? Know a couple of places for a cuppa Joe or a pint...

I'm here tonight, Harry. Leaving out in the morning. I'm supposed to be meeting John Merchant from MTSU later tonight, but haven't gotten a return call yet.

Gimme a call after 8 or so if you're in the mood for a quiet pint in Brentwood or South Nashville.

Panera at 100 Oaks? You take Briley south until it turns west and crosses I-24, where it becomes Thompson Lane. Stay on Thompson across Nolensville Road (first major intersection), under the rail bridge (big sucker - can't miss it) and about half a mile further. Cemetery, then big Pepsi bottler on the left; then the Guitar Center end of the old mall. Proceed to the light at Bransford (north)/Palmer (south) and turn left (south) along the front of the mall. Past Home Depot to the movieplex just past... then Panera on the left. Just prior to the Armory Drive I-65 on-ramp to get thee hence to Kansas City, via Paducah.

I'll awaken 0730 or so... 0830-ish?

It is, indeed... but is one of many "comfort food" stations here in TwangTown.

I had a heinous week last week... 4 of 5 days were 16+ hours, usually at two venues each day, from a full AV loadin (with four 12x16/10K projection setups) to a kid's talent showcase at one of our private schools. Needless to say, by Saturday morning I was toast.

My new grandson's "other" grandmother was in town at the end of a 2-week visit to bond with Baby Edward and wanted to go to Loveless Cafe ( http://www.lovelesscafe.com/ ). I will say that while the eggs and hashbrown casserole and biscuits (which will hurt you, badly) were just what the doctor ordered... the two-hour wait for a seat which was spent, blissfully, sitting still on the front porch in the sun reading a Vince Flynn novel and sipping coffee, was sheer unadulterated pleasure. To wrap it up, a 20-mile jaunt down the Natchez Trace Parkway (fall colors) and another hour wandering through the Lieper's Fork "artist colony" (complete with a guy named Tom Shinness playing the fire out of a 1920s-era Gibson Harp Guitar) really made the day. See him and it here: < YouTube - Don't Give Into Sorrow About Tomorrow/ Fair Park > and be amazed... especially the last 2 minutes...

Sorry for the revel... but I was struck yet again how much I love this burg.

Sorry... the quote should have been the "Sorry I missed you, Harry. I had to get up early and I ended up driving for 14 1/2 hrs.!" post...

Sounds a lot like you went most all the way to Denver. That's a hike. Give me a call when you are on the way back through and we'll decimate some biscuits and cheese grits...

Is that all?

I once had to drive from Oxfordshire (GB) to Central Slovakia (SK) - distance about 1,150 miles including a sea crossing. I did it in one go in about 21 hours.

Though normally I do it in two days with a night stop half way.

OK, this isn't a bragging contest! I was towing a 2500lb. trailer into a 30mph headwind all day, though. Used 5 tanks of gas! Blew a trailer tire in Southern IL and had to get a new one in MO. A hectic day, to say the least.

I'm still in Denver, Teddy. There was nothing going on as far as location work (classical, opera, jazz, etc.) in NC. I called around and visited more than a few. I did a lot of work on a studio in Graham for 4 weeks. Too bad. I really liked it there.

I'll see your Oxfordshire-to-Slovakia trip and raise you a King of Prussia PA-to-Naples FL run... after a full day event (PA, lights, video IMAG and recording) with a strike and pack. I will stipulate that I drove only through the first seven states (PA-to-SC) before my A1 took over for a bit, somewhere south of 3 am... but that was about 1225 miles and 22 hours, 6 pm to 4 pm, towing a trailerful of AV gear behind an underpowered Ford F150 van.

I slept well that night.

HB

FWIW, that trip was the one that precipitated buying a used F350 with a 7.3 L diesel motor. Smooooth-runnin'...

bah, you need to give up on the classical stuff. no work anywhere, man. or what there is is dwindling..

however, the "secular" business is booming(live band recordings, sound reinforcement) especially around the triangle and charlotte..

EDIT.

what about Tech Work? Those are in higher demand than recordists are.... and what about dusting off those heldentenor chords and start singing again?
