Talking Recording of poplar trees in the wind

Hi,

i need a nice and long stereo recording of (many) poplar trees in the wind; if possible: without bird twitter and other noises; including the rights to play it in public.
How much would it cost to get somebody to record it and give the sound + the rights to me. Or does somebody already have a great recording of it?

Can anybody of you do it? How fast?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Are your a TV Producer by any chance?

I WANT SOMETHING, AND I WANT IT NOW.

Recording of poplar trees? What is it you even want? The creaking of Poplar trees? The leaves rustling? Do you want the wind? Does it even have to be poplar trees? Are there any forests without any birds that you know of that an be recorded?

And I take it you want the rights for free and forever?

What kind of project is it?

No I'm not a TV producer. Sorry, I didn't want to sound that way!

Actually it's not for me, but for an Architect I worked for. I planned a PA system for her memorial project and she came to me last week and wanted me to record that sound I described to play it back there. As we all may have noticed: its autumn and the leaves are falling (surprise!!!), so she wants it now because the grand opening is next january (...). But my schedule is full, the weather is not perfect here in Berlin and I don't know any good places to record in my vicinity.

I didn't say I want something for free. I wanted to know, how much it would cost.

I think, it should be relatively strong wind blowing in those trees, recorded from a few metres away. It should be recognisable as "leaf-noise" (what's the right term for that in english?) to somebody, who is not seeing any trees. I, personally, would say it doesn't have to be poplar trees, but ... you know, architects ... . It should sound very soft and decent and should have great stereo width.

Do you need to know something else?

A forest with wind sweeping through and no birds? That's going to be a tall order.

Well, at evening/night for example chances are good, that they're sleeping. I heard some recordings on freesound :: home page without any birds. But they were in no satisfying quality and not long enough.
Oh, and it shouldn't be kind of steady state noise. Squalls would be nice. (am I too cocky?)

I do have a zillion poplar trees around, and I know how enchanting the sound is, kind of a fluttering/swapping/shivering thing, but cueing the wind.... that there's problematic.

It would be hard to give you a fixed price without a very clear idea of what exactly you want and expect.
I usually can find nature sounds on freesound or soundsnap that can be edited, repeated, combined with other sounds etc. in order to come up with the desired sound effect.

Your best bet to get something isolated like that, and for it to play well over a pa in a public place, might be to foley it.
PM me if you'd like the numbers of some folks who could do that for you.

Set of a few bangers it will scare the birds away for a while, then you can edit later.

One issue is the volume (?) of wind needed to create the desired sound in relation to the interference sound of wind at the microphone. A sheltered area at the base of a tree would be ideal for capturing the desired sound in the higher branches (particularly with a directional mic).

Not sure how Poplar trees might differ from Aspen or other generic broad leafs (at least I know pines aren't quite right; too hissy).

Maybe go here:
Download Sound Effects, Royalty Free Sound Effects

scroll through the 20 pages for trees or leaves pick some that sound like what you think they want. $3 or $4 each.
or

http://www.sounddogs.com/extendedsearch.asp

Soundeffects.ch - Online Sound Effects - wind + tree Sound Effects, 5.1 Surround Sound wind + tree Tracks Page 1

Foley might be nice if there's a Close Up element you want to add (or 'sweeten'): some grass or branches with leaves shaken or brushed against each other in front of a mic.

I am glad to see our community is so sensitive to such things. It is for a memorial service for heavens sake.

You got your nurseries that specialize in fully-grown trees, you got your wind turbines... you got a hundred lumberjacks slung from the branches with brooms or squeegees or something... piece o' cake!

Recording trees without human noise pollution will be more difficult than without bird sounds. Trees rustling and Atlantic Ocean sounds are quite similar, believe it or not. All that is really necessary is to get a decent duration of ambient tree rustle and then copy it, paste & crossfade it at varying durations and you'll have a credible "Tree Rustle" recording...give it a try. Poplar species is certainly optional...

Let's see.....an omni mic (hell even a noisy DPA will do ..... !) a Rycote, a tall boom arm or lighting stand, a windy night time location with trees (poplars for authenticity is desirable), edit around any human or animal noises, make it run for a minute and then loop it for as long as necessary, Nagra or Sound Devices or iPod or Sony Walkman cassette or Zoom Hx for capture, get the trees to sign a royalties waiver and you're done !

pretty sure I could synthesize this sound fairly easy with a few noise oscillators
