Question Interfaces for live recordings

Hi, still pretty new here, been creeping for a while. I used the search function but didn't really get what i was looking for.

Basically, i've just worked things out with a local venue to start offering bands to have their live set recorded. For the most part, we have things figured out as far as set up and gear (going to be buying two ART S8 splitters), but as far what my mobile set up will be, i'm still undecided.

Right now, i'm using a 003 for my home setup, and will probably end up using it for the time being, but i'd rather buy two 8 channel interfaces and record into logic.

So i'm looking for opinions on what i should get because i'd rather not cheap out and get that Behringer ADA 8000. I'd like something with a bit better quality...I'm looking at the M-Audio ProFire2626 (found one used for $400) and the Focusrite Saffire and/or Octopre stuff. Also, i always try to record at 88.2khz when i can, but for this purpose, do you guys think it's worth spending the extra money to get something that capable of SMUX or if recording everything at 44.1khz will be plenty good?

I'm trying to spend as little as possible, but also don't want use crap when i could get something better for a little more $$.

im using 2xada8000 into an 003 for live recordings. its...ok.

at some point ill be getting the BLA mod on the whole thing (003 and one of the ada8000s)

its $225 for the ada8000 mod, i havent heard any clips of it or anything, but I have no doubts that it will drastically improve the sound.

and ive heard unconfirmed reports that the ada8000 does do smux on another forum...i have no idea how though (my 003 doesnt support it anyway)

I use ART S8's and a profire 2626 in my kit all the time. IMHO, track at 48/24 and save the disk space. If it's a classical or jazz gig with only a couple pairs of mics, I run at 96/24, but when track counts get high, you exponentially eat into storage space. It's not really worth it for me. YRMV

Just pm a mod to have them move it, rather than duplicating it

I got the M Audio 2626 also - and for the back eight I added my old MOTU box which can work as a stand alone analog-to-ADAT converter. I have also used the SM Pro a/d unit - which is really inexpensive and works well.

I have used the rig for recording off the board at clubs and also for classical stuff.

In the classical sessions, I bring some of my high end preamps that live in rack cases. But I have used the 2626 onboard preamps when those run out and they are pretty good.

All in all quite happy with the unit. And of course if you drop pro tools you can get the full 26 in, which may come in handy some day...
